Is their every typed utterance of such monumental importance, or are they just pretentious arseholes?
In my case, it’s both. 🤔😏

Another one of rock/prog's seminal keyboard players has left the building. 😞

Most of the people I know have no way to actually play back a CD.
I believe that the main problem. Not too many people I know have a way to play them any more…except maybe in their car, or if there’s something like a Playstation in the house.
I still play my CDs a bunch…but then again, I also have DVD-As, SACDs and Blu-Ray discs, so I have a dedicated player in my AV system that reads all those formats.

Still digging mine. Lotta fun to play, sounds unlike anything else I own, pretty versatile software instrument controller.

From what i remember it takes a 10 db increase in power to produce a 3db increase in perceived volume. 30 db in loudness is twice the perceived loudness as 27 db. Pianoman51's post above FTW ....
In order to achieve the 3db increase in loudness it takes 10x the power (given no other variables are changing) to achieve the 3db increase in perceived loudness.
So, you’re agreeing with the POV that 10dB is double audible loudness…which is the spec that makes the most sense to me as well.
If so, would +20dB be triple the original volume, or double the +10 dB boost (4x original volume)? Or…?

Say it in terms of pure physics. Clarify it with a statement that not all humans perceive volume changes in the same way.
Not so easy to do in a way that most people can relate to - the physics approach can tend to make the average person’s eyes glaze over.
Lots of discussions/marketing materials rely on the dB spec to express loudness without saying how that translates to real life sonics. It’s kind of like referring to frequency response on studio monitors without addressing what the cone materials and speaker topology do to the actual sound - 40dB low end frequency response spec does not usually sound the same on a paper woofer as it does on a Kevlar one, and sealed boxes do not sound the same as ported ones.

All good info so far….thanks!
I’m trying to figure out how to say how much louder +12dB is, even if it’s approximate…
…or do y’all think the +3dB power spec is the more relevant spec as far as dB increase?

I’m trying to figure out how volume doubling works in decibels.
It seems to be commonly held that +3dB doubles power, but it takes +6dB to double perceived volume/loudness (although I’ve also read that it takes +10dB to double perceived volume/loudness as well).
First question: do you agree that it’s +6dB?
Second question: if +6dB doubles perceived volume/loudness, how much does +12dB raise it? Or +18dB?
My inquiring mind wants to know… 🤔

Yup, I just got a Spotify list for a gig later this month. Old guys, though - no younger members.

Like any other feature - having accurate data on what users want and predicting what they will open their wallets for is the challenge.
True…but, as you observed, getting “accurate” data is only part of the battle. Interpreting it to suit the instrument in question is also not a lot of fun.
Then once you’ve decided that you wanna take a chance on the 76 key thing, there’s this other decision - semi-weighted synth action? Fully weighted? Hammer action? No matter which way you go, you’ll probably be second-guessed.

It’s endlessly frustrating when keys aren’t offered in 61, 73/76, 88.
You think that’s frustrating, try being the manager of the keyboard division that has to project how many of each model will sell so that you can forecast (months in advance) how many of each chassis to build, boxes to order, etc. Used to be that a rack-mount version had to be factored in as well.
Don’t get me wrong - I’m a big fan of the 73/76 key option; but, having been in the role of said keyboard division manager, I can tell you that it’s easy for me to understand why some models don’t get released in all three configurations.

First of all: really nice work, brother Craig!
I listened to both mixes on my earbuds, both with and without the Spatializer setting engaged. Not surprisingly, it was easier to hear the differences between the two mixes with the Spatializer off.
I do hear what you did on the stereo mix with the EQ…but biggest difference for me was more about the way the instruments sat from a placement POV. In that respect, my preference by far was for the Atmos mix. For lack of a better word, I feel like the overall coherence of the total mix worked better for me in the Atmos mix, from where and how the vocals sat to the balance and sonics of the drums. The guitar and keyboard parts also seemed to mesh better in the Atmos mix - it was easier for me to hear more separation on the stereo mix, where the Atmos mix had what I felt was better integration.
Does that make sense?

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, guys! 🥰
It was a bit of a challenging one this year. I just got through with an old guy medical procedure, and unfortunately we had to say goodbye to one of our pups on Monday…but by and large, I do still enjoy celebrating another trip around the sun. ☺️

I also appreciate the value on being able to read up (from sites where it’s fairly easy to see the info should be reliable), and especially to be able to do things like watch videos on ailments and their possible remedies.
I just had a procedure last week which I managed to find fairly well captured on video before going through it. I found it so much cooler to be able to visualize what’s going to happen rather than leaving my imagination to run free… 😬

Here’s my version of this type of thing - when a band I’m in wants to do a song that requires most of the learning and/or programming be done by me…and, inevitably, after a whole lot of prep on my part, when we do try to play it live (with no rehearsal), they’re nowhere near as prepared as I am, and we end up only doing it once or twice.
A couple examples would be Kashmir and Won’t Get Fooled Again. The latter was really annoying for me - I had to have the organ sound triggered by LFO when I was the only one playing, then switch to manual 8th notes modulated by a phaser when the band was playing because our drummer refused to play with a click.
However, the worst one was having a club owner who was friends with our singer request that we learn to play Pink Floyd’s Dogs. Waaaay too long for a non-Floyd bar gig, way too much keyboard programming and not a lot of effort required from the other members…so, I’d have had to spend a bunch of time programming sounds for a 20 min song so we could play it at one gig because one guy requested it…
… and I even already knew how to play it end to end acoustic guitar.
I refused. Hilarity ensued. 😒
I even offered to do an unplugged version, but noooooo - they wanted an “authentic” version.🙄
