SteveC
Believe me, I have used the search. What would be a good choice for a non-rack compressor? Boss and Digitech don't do it for me. I don't want/need much, just enough to give me that "XM Jazz" sound. I prefer not to have a rack. I like my SansAmp BDDI and Boss TU-2. Right now that's all I have to carry - unless I need my amp and cab. It seems my choices are an RNC or a Presonus.
shandobass
The old Trace Elliot Dual Compressor, Demeter, Electro Harmonics (tube), and Aphex are all reasonably good compressors. The Trace Elliot has been discontinued for some time. Try EBay.
Mike Bear
Aphex "Punch Factory". I did a session with my Sans Amp BDDI, Punch Factory and some chorus and it sounded pretty darn good. Mike Bear Artisan-Vocals/Bass Instructor
rumpelstiltskin.
i have heard nothing but ecstatic raves about the RNC. plus, if you wanted to get it into a rack, funk logic makes rack panels for it. i don't think you'd regret it if you bought the RNC. robb. because i like people. _Sweet Willie_
I'm very pleased with my EBS MultiComp. I've heard very nice things about both the Aphex Punch Factory and the Demeter OptoCompulator. Peace. --SW spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars. Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk.
Mike Bear
I forgot to mention that the Punch Factory does have a balanced out. I know this isn't common with most pedals. Especally ones that arn't pre-amp style. Mike Bear Artisan-Vocals/Bass Instructor
SteveC
I have been doing some reading and it seems that people like the RNC more for program stuff than like bass or drums. Th eBlue Max seems to be better suited for light travel an dbass in particular. I like the preset AND manual mode.
Bob Gollihur
Another vote for the RNC; it does a nice subtle job for bass. 1000 Upright Bass Links, Luthier Directory, Teacher Directory - http://www.gollihurmusic.com/links.cfm - Life is too short for bad tone -

Danno
Hey Steve - I use the Presonus Blue tube and Blue max and the compressor is great.Use them with a power amp and 4x10 cab. Very clean and natural sounding with my Carvin Bass. Also good for recording with all the presets. 1974 Fender Jazz 2003 Musicman StingRay 2006 Gibson LP Studio VM Carvin DCM1000 amp GK 410 SBX Cab SansampPBDDI Ampeg B100R
