  1. Yes I did think about the Gemini Module for organ+ sounds, and I know drawbar settings could be mapped to the Fantom, but I'm too used to "real" drawbars to not have that feature in an organ module. Guess I'll have to wait a while and save up more $$$ to be able to keep my Stage3 and still purchase a Fantom.
  2. So I thought I would give a small update on my findings of the Fantom 7 action. I was able to play one in the flesh yesterday and was very enamored with the action. As someone mentioned here, it is even nicer than the Korg M3, and I agree. The bad news is that it froze up twice on me while testing it out. Now I realize that it was NOT new and probably did not have the new OS installed. Since I wasn't well versed with this instrument, hey maybe it was my fault. Anyway, I just wanted to feel the action and wasn't that concerned about it's sonic ability. But that being said, as much as I did love the action, it didn't have the sounds that I've come to know and love in my Stage 3......read B3 organs, Whirly and Rhodes. The EPs probably could be had in the Fantom, but the organs I would think not ever as good and controllable as the Nord. So long story short, I would need both to satisfy my ears, or get the Fantom 7 and at least add a MoJo or Viscount table top module. Cheers Paul
  3. That's exactly the feedback I want to hear. Thanks
  4. Sorry haven't been in the keyboard world for a few years now but was considering a Roland Fantom7. My only question about this particular synth is the keyboard action. Some say it's one of the best synth actions now on the market. Since I can't get to any music stores that have one to try, I am hoping some owners of said board could shed some light on their experience. I remember the actions on most of my Korg synths (M1, M3, T3, Triton Studio, Triton EX7) being quite nice to play and not flimsy like a lot of the lesser priced boards available today. I would be looking for similar action on the Fantom7, I do realize that this is a person preference question, but still like to get some thoughts on the matter. Thanks Paul
  5. I don't know the book, but I have seen Dave play in a jazz setting a few times and he definitely has excellent chops. Can't imagine his book wouldn't lend some help to any level of player. Again he is head of the department at BSM. Cheers Paul
  6. Yes Leslie was mic'd I saw yet another band outside last night and the keys player was using the same setup. you could tell the 145 was close mic'd...lots of doppler effect through the FOH... but sounded good. But my thought was that he could have easily gotten away with a vent in last nights context. Paul
  7. Yes all the early classic Beatle tunes with a blues twist. They were tight and it was well done and the crowd loved them. It was announced that they came from Brazil, we are in Rhode Island, when speaking they did have accents that would point towards that being true. They did have roadies! Paul
  8. Sorry I'm here all the time, but rarely post. This is just an observance from last nights outdoor concert on the beach. We saw a band called The Blues Beatles and they were all excellent players. The bass player was mixed WAY too hot for my liking, but that is my pet peeve. Anyway, the point of all this is that I was hearing a very nice Hammond/Leslie sound but couldn't see what the guy was using from where I was seated. So I took a walk up behind the bandstand and saw that he was using an XK1c and a road cased 147 with an old original chrome pre-amp stomp box from the 60's. Well as we all know, there's nothing like the real thing, this rig kicked some serious A$$ like no SIM can do. As said before, very good player, but great sound never hurts either. So this observance is not for argument sake, it was just good old fashioned ear candy to me.....and it made my night. Paul
  9. So do you think it would be too strange to use different speakers to complete my pair. I hardly ever play out, but I would like a nice AP sound from the Stage3. I use a A&H Zed6fx for mixing. Thanks Paul
  10. Right now I have one Yammy DXR8 which I like and find "smoother" than my friends K10. I will be in the market for another speaker and probably should just get another DXR8, but they are 29.8 lbs and the EV ZXa1 at 19 lbs. kills 10 lbs. What is the different in sound between them. Using a Stage 3c as my keyboard. Price point is pretty much the same, this would be for the weight reduction only. Thoughts? Thanks Paul
  11. I have been on a quest for knowledge pertaining to the SK1-88 keybed for months. Nobody could tell me, not even the factory, what Fatar keybed was used in the 88 model. I know I'm not the only one here wanting this information. I wanted to know the difference between my SK1-73 and the SK1-88 keybed, so I finally said screw this and bought a fresh Sk1-88 model. Contrary to popular belief, it does have full sized piano type keys, NOT waterfall. The keys are about 5/8" longer than my SK1-73 keys. Both black and white. The keybed of the 88 feels just a tad heavier than the 73. It is nowhere near as stiff as the Kurzweil Pc3a7 or Artis7. Personally, just what I was looking for. Anyway, just an FYI for all since this is such a hard model to get your hands on at any store, period! Now to sell the SK1-73 Cheers Paul
  12. Thanks, I'll just keep my ear to the ground. Paul
  13. Will you be carrying this if/when it becomes available? https://github.com/keyboardpartner/HX3/blob/master/DOCS_PDF/HX3%20MIDI%20drawbar%20module.pdf Thanks Paul
  14. Thanks Al for the fix, although mine did seem to work Ok. I really do hope this unit becomes a reality. Sounds like maybe an Xmas gift with this time frame? Maybe loose the SK1-73 and push this with a Yamaha or Kurzweil..as I've said in the past many times over, as much as I'd love to have waterfall keys for organ playing, I want 76 keys not 73....someday it will happen. Paul
  15. I'll be waiting for this, hopefully it's not vaporware. https://github.com/keyboardpartner/HX3/blob/master/DOCS_PDF/HX3%20MIDI%20drawbar%20module.pdf And if it does materialize, I hope Diversi will carry it also and it won't be too expensive. Paul
