This song "Life During Wartime" and some others like The Rolling Stones "Miss You" have the quarter note kick beat of Disco. But I don't consider either to be Disco songs, and I like both of them. I truly love the live version of 'Life During Wartime" from the 'Stop Making Sense" movie, and I would love for our covers band to cover that version.

I'm holding out for a better offer.

I am a huge fan of Steely Dan and the Aja album in particular, and have listened to all its tracks countless times. I've always felt that the words "Well the" had a particular sound, as if a lot of effort was made to make them sound that way!

I definitely like hearing what is on the original when learning to cover a song. I won't always be bound by the original, but sometimes there is something there that is valuable in figuring our how your keys part can contribute to the whole thing your band delivers. The posts by AROIOS and J.F.N. provided a lot of help for this, and after listening to those clips, I would have used those as a a starting point for trying to figure out what I would want to play if our band were going to cover this song. This a song where the guitar parts are more visible and important, but that just means I would need to find the best way to fit my keys stuff in without getting in the way. Whatever the keys player did on the original might be a better idea than anything I would think of on my own.

I noticed distorted sound from my Electrovoice zx-a1 during the last month. My initial guess was that I had blown its 8-inch main driver, and that I might have caused it by playing left hand bass with a weird synth bass patch during a recent rehearsal, when our bass player was absent. I ended up buying an Alto TS408 based on opinions shared from some of the people whose opinions I value in this forum, and the TS408 sounds a lot better than my zx-a1 had been sounding recently. My son opened up the zx-a1, discovered it was very easy to remove its amplifier "box", and detached the wires that sent signal to the 8-inch main driver. So he ran a test where he sent the output from the zx-a1 amplifier "box" to one of our Yamaha stage monitors, and he heard the same distortion we had been hearing from the zx-a1 before we opened it up. The conclusion is that it is the amplifier that is blown in the zx-a1, and not the speakers in the zx-a1. It just occurred to me that I have not tested the second input on the back of the zx-a1 since I started noticing the distortion. It is possible that I may have caused this by inserting the line-in TS cable into the back of the zx-a1 while it was powered on. I confess to impatience while multitasking. Has anyone every bought a replacement amplifier "box" for an Electrovoice zx-a1? I saw a listing on Amazon for one priced at $220 but the reviews made it seem very much a hit or miss product.

If you are running the mixing board yourself at a gig, while you are playing an instrument, I would want the mixing board to have physical faders. It's one thing to look at and adjust virtual faders on a screen while at rehearsal, but a different thing to deal with this while juggling responsibilities at a live gig.

I would love to be able to purchase a video sync license for "Life in the Fast Lane", because our covers band plays it, and my son sings the lead vocal, and I would love to be able to post a video of this on our band's youtube channel. So for me it's a very personal and strong want for this. Before I knew about Don Henley's stance on copyrights, I tried posting a draft version of such a video, and even with it only being in non-published status (meaning one would need to know the exact video URL to view it), youtube immediately told me it was blocked in a very long list of countries (basically everywhere that would matter to me). Then I read up on Henley's position on this, and even watched a video of Don Henley's testimony on this topic to a congressional committee. As inconvenient as this is for my personal wants, I'm totally with Don Henley on the copyright issue. It's their composition. There wouldn't be a "Life in the Fast Lane" song worthy of covering if they had not composed it. My covers band is not forced to play it - there is a world of other good songs worth covering, but we choose to cover it because the song has value as a composition.

In the spirit of obscuring logos on gear, as a joke, my son put a "Marshall" plastic logo on an old Roland KC-100.

My favorite jazz pianists of the previous generation were McCoy Tyner and Bill Evans. I also liked Chick Corea a lot. I'm not sure who my favorite would be in the more current generation. I love some of the piano playing I heard on the early Roy Hargrove albums, but checking personnel I see 3 different pianists played on "Diamond in the Rough" and "The Vibe".
