  1. Dear Myles, I'm picking up a Bedrock Series 1000 2 x 12 Combo in a few days and wanted to ask you about power tubes. It has a quartet of either 5881s or EL-34s. What can you tell me generally about these tubes? Any tips are as always sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Alan Tomlinson
  2. Many guitarists have a problem which is similar to extreme flatulence involving their almost total inability to play tastefully and at an appropriate volume: since this problem is nearly as embarassing as extraordinary flatulence, it has been called GAS. The cure is of course to put written music in front of the offending guitar player as this nearly always silences the guitarist. GAS is indeed the acronym for , Guitar (or Gear) Acquisition Syndrome. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson
  3. Dear Myles, Do you have any knowledge of the Bedrock 1000 Series 2x12 combo? I have the chance to buy one and it does sound quite nice but I know almost nothing about it. I've googled and read everything I could find about it but that is not much. Any thoughts you might have would, as always, be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Alan Tomlinson
  4. Second the motion, this thread needs to be a sticky. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson
  5. [bump (because Myles knows worlds more than most of you wankers)]
  6. I am in so many ways not Myles, but he answered your question perfectly. Metal players are into those things because they are not as concerned with articulation, definition and clarity as they are with distortion. You can have some degree of one or the other but not all of both simultaneously. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson
  7. Dear Myles, Have you got an opinion on amps for straight-ahead, clean jazz tone? I love my Gilmore Jr. but clean headroom is not necessarily its strongpoint (that would be expecting a lot from 1/2 watt). I've read about the Acoustic Image Clarus heads and the AERs but they are a bit expensive for me. I'm not averse to building something but I suspect that won't be an option. Are their any used heads out there that I might keep an eye out for? My priorities here include: 1. great sound, preferrably under $400 2. light weight, preferrably under 15 lbs. 3. durability 4. price Thanks in advance. Incidentally, I ordered the GT 12AX7 Mullards for my Gilmore Jr. I'm looking forward to receiving them soon. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson
