I recently heard my daughter picking out a song, I thought on her keyboard, but sure enough it was on computer. Turns out Barbie.com has a new "making music" page.

This started me thinking that maybe we could save a lot of money on music education in the schools by just letting kids learn music over the internet.

Here's a fine example of what a great teacher Barbie (and Mattel) are. Make sure you pick the song "My Country "Tis of Thee." It's a perfect example. I know you'll enjoy it.

Here's the link: Barbie makes music

After extensive tests, I have determined that the audio provided from the Barbie web site has a very noticeable .000001 db drop from 60Hz to 120Hz. I wouldn't subject my kids to something like that.

By the way. I will have the cd's verifying my results available in a few days. \:D

Rock on Lynn.

But did you try playing the song?

It's the wrong melody!!!!!!!

Mostly right notes but there's one note that's not on their "no flats or sharps" keyboard, so they just play it a half step low. What's up with that? Teaching our kids the melodies of significant American anthems WRONG?????

There's no excuse for that.

Yeah one note is most definatley flat. I never heard this song called by this name either. It's "God Save The Queen" - it's the damn English national anthem! Except it's the Adams family version.....

Barbie apparently likes Myxolydian mode...she's a little jazzer, that one.

I now have someone to blame if my daughter chooses sports instead of music!

BTW, for those of us with children, reading R. Jourdain's book "Music, the brain, and ecstasy" gives (among many other subjects) good insights in how children perceives melody, harmony and rythm. And how it can affect them later in life.

I got the "too many notes" error.

I guess Barbie doesn't dig fusion.

Ouch! Barbie is a ditz - well known issue.

But, no worries - any real budding musician is going to choke on that - I know even at 5 yrs old, I would have.

I forwarded these comments to Mattel's feedback system.

I had a friend who devised an ingenious system of subversive reverse shoplifting.

He would buy GI Joe and Barbie talking dolls, switch the voice boxes, and sneak them back onto the store shelves.

I have the schematics somewhere, don't know if this works with current models...

Steve,

It's myxolydian...a little outside, but perfectly acceptable...like playing "Twinkle, Twinkle" in minor. 'Course, ya gotta know the rules before you break them.
