David Emm
I can settle for seeing things on streaming releases, 6-8 months later. That seems to be the loose pattern. I'm also too old to be a frothing trendmonger anymore, so keeping up with the Joneses is right out anyway! There is also an unholy wad of series, docs and exotic one-offs to be had online. Starving for options, we're not. I've become weary of the old ultra-violence, so this JB flick is on the 50/50 mark, my pending interest TBD. I prefer my violence sanitized by animation or super-hero overlays, so I'll be there in a HAZMAT suit to see the next Marvel offerings. I feel sure that the next Dr. Strange and Ant-Man & the Wasp chapters will feel like superior flashbacks. Anderton
I bought the Blu-Ray when it came out last week, and watched the movie last night. It's almost a "real movie" more than a "James Bond" movie. Not the best cinematic experience ever, but very well-done. You could see the money on the screen. Gotta hand it to Daniel Craig, he definitely looks older than he did in Casino Royale. He was smart to quit while he was ahead so he wouldn't become a parody of James Bond. Also...earlier in this thread, I mentioned that I thought they were going to go back to fill in the cracks between older James Bond movies. Well, I saw an article speculating that's exactly what's going to happen. You heard it here first! nadroj
Late to the party, but we bought it on Prime Video. Never got a chance to go to the cinema. I purposefully (and miraculously) avoided any spoilers or reviews, so apart from a few comments I saw on Twitter I went in with no expectation or anything that could sway my opinion. Freaking loved it. One of the best Bond films I've ever seen. My standards for films are very low (I mean, I left The Force Awakens thinking it was one of the most entertaining Star Wars films ever 😜), and if I watch it again I'll probably notice things I don't like, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I do agree with some of the criticisms I've read since watching it. It wasn't perfect, but the ending was. Anyways, I thought it was a brilliant way to end Craig's Bond run. He's definitely my favourite Bond - having read the books, he just fits Ian Fleming's character so well. 1 Quote Hammond SKX Mainstage
Anderton
Eon is re-releasing No Time to Die for selected iMax theaters (not my local one, unfortunately - check your local listings). I believe this is the only Bond film shot with iMax cameras and film, so it should be pretty impressive on the B I G screen. I did get the Blu-Ray. Guess I'll just have to sit really close to the screen to approximate the experience Quote Craig Anderton Educational site: http://www.craiganderton.org Music: http://www.youtube.com/thecraiganderton Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/craig_anderton

Guess I'll just have to sit really close to the screen to approximate the experience iMax cannot be simulated or duplicated. They are using much larger film and better lenses. There is better color rendition and more vivid detail in every image. Don't let that stop you from sitting up close though!!!! Years ago, I saw Sully in the theater. Clint Eastwood shot it in iMax but it was released as a regular movie. I'm not sure the medium, film or digital. In any case, I saw the superior quality and found out later that it was shot in iMax. That was a pretty OK movie, the scene where the plane lands in the Hudson was very well done but overall the plot was pretty boring. It looked much better than movies typically do, the larger capture format and certainly the lenses do make a difference. RABid
I worry about any changes to the Bond franchise, not because change is bad, but because the entertainment industry seems to be bad at change. The last Marvel movie had so many changes that it felt more like an agenda than a progression. And Fox's changes to Archie in Riverdale seems almost criminal to a kid that grew up reading Archie comics. I mean, really, did they really need to start off with a 14-15 year old Archie having an affair with a teacher? So, what can they do with Bond? They could make him black but Will Smith already pulled that off in the Wild Wild West movie so that would be nothing new. Thor already became a female so nothing new there. Gay? Probably afraid to go there. Ugly and out of shape? Hmmm, how About a bond that cannot get the girl. That would be a change... Quote This post edited for speling. Anderton
Mark my words: British male Relatively unknown actor No story arc, each movie stands alone Splits the difference between Roger Moore and Daniel Craig Has more of a 60s vibe 1 Quote Craig Anderton Educational site: http://www.craiganderton.org Music: http://www.youtube.com/thecraiganderton Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/craig_anderton
David Emm
I didn't brave diddly to watch "ETERNALS" at home. Its a long chapter in the Marvel mythos, but it was gratifying, with solid European art film overtones. How much you enjoy it depends on how much you've invested in the franchise. I have the Bond finale on my list, though. Connery was the best archetypal Bond, but Craig's has the biggest cojones. I've seen the others, so I'm in line. harmonizer
For my personal choice, there are certain things I want to do, because I want to enjoy life, while knowing they have a higher than normal risk for catching COVID (even though my immediate family is vaccinated and boosted). I went to a family wedding in Arizona during the week before Christmas. Everyone who attended (except for 2 people) claimed to be vaccinated. It was a calculated risk, but I saw this as rationing the level of risk that we all accepted so we could enjoy something very important. Similarly, our covers band is trying to re-form. 2 of our previous band members refused to get vaccinated, but 6 out of the 7 of us sang at various times, and even worse, 2 of the 7 play horns on about half our songs (I am one of the 2). You can debate to what degree singing can work with a mask, but with a saxophone it's totally different. Group indoor singing is incompatible with unvaccinated band members. Multiple of us talked to the two band members multiple times. And we gave them a few months to change their minds, but they did not. So eventually we pushed them out of the band - this was several months ago. As an aside (but not really an aside) one of them passed away from COVID on January 9 (17 days ago). There is a lot more related to his passing that is very sad and upsetting for me, but I will leave that aside for now. Getting back to the topic here, we started auditioning replacements in December. Our covers band has found a replacement for one of the two spots that were vacated, and for the second spot we have found one candidate who is acceptable and are auditioning a second candidate for that spot in early February. Singing in our church choir is a 3rd activity in this category. There are precautions in place - everyone in our choir must be vaccinated, and we wear choir masks at rehearsals and at service. Our church decided to suspend choir rehearsals and in service singing starting near the start of January thru the end of the month. I look forward to resuming that as soon as we consider it safe enough. It won't be 100% safe, but I think we can make it safe enough to be worth resuming. Anderton
Getting back to Bond flicks...I bought the complete set for my birthday, and have been watching them chronologically. It's fascinating. Each movie is like a little time capsule of that moment. It's particularly interesting seeing the various exotic locales, as well as the clothes, the outdated attitudes, even some of the language of a particular era. Sure, it's trivial escapist fare, but there's a lot to be gleaned from those movies. Sometimes I have to remind myself they didn't have CGI back then. How the heck did they do some of those shots, with the huge buildings and stuff? Beats me. It's so much easier to do with pixels Right now I'm into the third Roger Moore movie. Generally he's considered the weakest Bond, but he's grown more into the character in each movie. Like it or not, he put his own stamp on the movies. Just like Daniel Craig had the brooding look down pat, Moore had the "puzzled yet muddling his way through successfully" look to a T. He was very good at looking like he was thinking about a present situation while anticipating a few steps ahead. The weirdest disconnect for me is the soundtrack for the action scenes. Wah-wah pedals and hyper-resonant Moog bass?!? Uh... On to the next one, sometime this week. 1 Quote Craig Anderton Educational site: http://www.craiganderton.org Music: http://www.youtube.com/thecraiganderton Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/craig_anderton
