OT: Forum access issues - time outs?

Recommended Posts

I have been getting a lot of these recently, just wondering if anyone outside of Oz is getting the same?

Thanks Dave...attacks from where though - from members IT connections or outside of that? Could it be because the site is still http and not https?

Contact Members Help Desk near the bottom of the forums with any solid information.

I get it sometimes but mostly not. I'm guessing Dave Bryce isn't too far off the mark. The interwebz are crawling with ee-vil hackers.

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

Do hackers have a special distaste for keyboard players? I get these timeouts all the time here, but don't bother posting about it since it's ongoing and I assume the powers that be are doing what they can to deal with it. But why this forum in particular? I don't see this happening anywhere else I go on the web.

I am weirdly blessed in only experiencing the usual hiccups, mainly signing in and then finding the site unresponsive. Its rare and doesn't last long. The last week? Smooth.

Been going on more than usual last couple days. Appear to happen the hours the site is busiest and get better when things slow down. I haven't seen any database error message, but trying to tune the database parameters for better performance if a touch too much can have the opposite effect. Could be where the site is hosted and hosting company is having network trouble. Having a website unless really big with own data center you're always at the mercy of where you site is being hosted.

Could be.That's why we pay the Sucuri folks. :idk:

Remember - we could take the site to https: at any point in time...at the cost of every video link in every forum, as far as we can tell. I figure there's gotta be a solution to that...but I have yet to find it, and I'm ill equipped to go looking for it. :hider:

I'll bring brother Jim in.

We had 3 separate DDOS attacks at 11:10, 11:42 and 11:44 AM Eastern. All were detected and blocked by the firewall.

Dam Chinese and Russian shredder guitar hackers ticked at piano players. A DDOS won't stop piano players!

My last job before retiring was what I guess a lot of hacker groups thought was a financial services company so we were both a target of hackers and of what appeared to be a Chinese hacker school. Yes, there are schools for hackers most say they are White Hat schools teaching pentesting but skills are the same it's all about how you use them. Or who's hiring you. My last job every morn the first hour or so of my day was scanning the security logs on our servers. Lucky for us appeared no one ever go in, but it wasn't for lack trying. Really persistent ones I'd trace as much as I could and 99% were coming from China, Russia, Northern Europe. Every once in awhile you see some kid in the US was trying to learn. The many of the ones from China came from one set of IP's and it like they were on a schedule and why we guess it was a hacking school and we'd see a spike when we guess was a new semester started.

Oh those thinking report them to authorities, no one cares unless you can prove someone got in and stole data. Plus most of this is from other countries and they care even less. Some countries like Russia hacking is a pretty much a normal job to try to find. Kid finishes school big choice flip burgers or get into hacking and pickup contract work. That's life in the 21st century.

thanks m8 - yeah that is an issue and even though I guess updating all the links manually is possible, physically it is impossible. Shame there is no batching type software that can hunt all of them out and supplant the http prefix. Although that probably wouldn't work either as it would depend on the original video source link being accessible via https from the original http. - again I am just surmising...trying to throw a little bit of logic at it :D

Then again, one needs to start somewhere...I know that the folks at Singular sound changed servers and systems, but left the old site as read-only to allow searchers to still access whatever data was still there, as well as forum posts. The original posters of the uploads, at their discretion, could re-upload to the new site....Not sure how much it cost though?
