Ed A.
That's my favorite Terry Riley album. Poppy Nogood and the Phantom Band is hypnotically eerie. Shri Camel is another great album by him. He's playing an organ tuned in just intonation through a delay: [video:youtube]
mauriziodececco
"A rainbow in a curved air" is one of the records, together with the Tangerine Dream Atem, and the Klause Shultze Mirage, that impulsed my musical life in the repetitive-minimalist direction in the 70s .... rod76
I quite liked it too... I heard that record some 20 years ago, along with David Borden and Mother Mallard.
Mark Schmieder
Yeah, I found that Terry Riley album for one or two dollars at a thrift store years ago, not previously being aware of it, and was overjoyed as it validated my opinion that the harpsichord is relevant to modern music. When people challenge me on that point now, I bring up Riley's work. Then they shut up about my decision to use harpsichord in my own works. That probably is my favourite of his albums as well, but I don't own them all. He's fun in concert as well. Doesn't take himself seriously. GovernorSilver
Had the pleasure of watching Terry Riley and his son Gyan Riley perform at the art museum in Knoxville, TN as part of Big Ears Festival. About halfway through the set, they announced "Now we're going to play composed music" as Gyan switched from electric guitar to classical - I was like "Wait, they were improvising??". Couple of nights later I caught a glimpse of Terry hanging out at the back of the club, checking out the set by Silver Apples. Terry didn't sing that time though, like he does here: [video:youtube]
