I just read yesterday that as of today, Florida has lowered the age requirement to 50.

All four people under 65 will be thrilled about this.

Hey, now. I'm under 65.

Well, only for another 9 months.

Florida is now over 40.

We aren't even #1 by percentage of seniors, that would be Maine (neither state has a state income tax, surely a coincidence!) Maine is where I'd like to move once my youngest is out of high school (he's very, very against the move right now so as much as I'd like to gtfo of here I'll wait.)

Guess you haven't been reading about South Beach lately.

Somehow I did miss the reports of crazy partying 50-year-olds of South Beach.

  • 2 weeks later...
Even though educators have officially been eligible since February in California, San Diego was a few weeks behind the state. I became eligible through the university three weeks ago. I spent two and a half days not finding an appointment, which sounds short when I type it but felt eternal, and then happened to be on the site when a slot opened up.

Moderna.

Couldn't have been easier. The longest part of the process was the 15-minute wait afterward to make sure the 5G implanted correctly.

My next shot is Tuesday. I am rolling the dice a bit, since the kids and I go away on Wednesday, but I wanted to be sure I got the appointment, and that one was pre-reserved for me by virtue of getting the first shot. I plan to go to bed early that night and hope to sleep mostly through any effects I might feel.

Second shot, same as the first. I parked right in front of the building, walked essentially without stopping to the various tables, and was one of only two people getting the shot while six other stations sat empty waiting for new arms. The 15 minutes after was the longest part of the process, again.

I felt fine but a bit "off" that day, went to bed early, and woke up like someone had beaten me with a shovel. If the kids and I weren't going away that day, I definitely would have slept all day.

I was fatigued and brain-fogged throughout that day, but no fever that I know about. Then, magically, at 5pm or so, the cloud lifted and I felt completely normal. So it's been ever since.

That was a week ago, so I am one week away from from full bars.

I actually went to the gym this week, after a year and a half (a shoulder injury had me out for six months before the pandemic hit). It turns out that going back to the gym after a year and a half, feels like you haven't gone to the gym for a year and a half.

But I was way less gripey about the punk-ass kid who had his mask below his nose and sneezed at the back of my head, than I would have been without being 5/6 way to fullest immunity.

Now if only I could get a gig...

First shot - A taste in my mouth and a bit run down.

Second shot - About like taking an antibiotic. Had to go to the bathroom a bit more than usual but no other affects.

Went into a grocery store and talked to a friend from high school. She said only one person in the entire store staff took the shot. The rest are either afraid or don't see the importance. Went back to the drug store where my sister was getting her second shot and the manager told us that he basically begged store employees at the grocery to come get their shots. He had open slots and available vaccine. He could not talk them into it. ... I don't understand people.

Musicians who teach and hang at the local music store they're not doing masks, social distance, and parroting conspiracy theories or political reasons. I cracked up a week ago one by one they were all coming in to talk about how they got their shot(s). The one holdout was getting madder and madder as each one would say they got the shot. He was fuming when one of his staunch allies on being anti-vaccine came in and said "just got the shot". Of course he blamed his wife for making him get the shot. I'm normally the conspiracy nut, but in a pandemic I took the attitude of better safe than sorry and show of respect to my fellow humans around me.

I just got Moderna Part 1 on Monday (April 5). Nothing unusual except for minor upper left arm pain the first hour after injection, and noticeable minor pain if I raise that arm. I played keyboards for the first time since my jab today and my normally strong left-hand strength feels slightly weakened, no real pain but it feels a little more labored in my left arm when I play (Nord Stage 3 HA88 - weighted keys). Issue not really a big deal playing on nonweighted/semiweighted keybed. Otherwise I feel just fine.

I got my first shot on Thursday (Pfizer). Was more tired than usual the following day. Took a short nap in the afternoon and was fine afterwards. Second shot is scheduled for 4/22. Looking forward to being on the other side of this. I took some outdoor gigs; the first is in May. Things are looking up!

I too got back to the gym last week after over a year, my upper body is sore and still. I had been walking almost everyday the last year so my lower body is just a little sore. Feels good to workout again and hope to shed the covid weight. Article I read a week ago said the average person gained about two pounds a month during lockdown. I notice a lot of musicians making new videos with fuller faces and bodies.

Got my second Pfizer shot last Friday and had the same minor reaction as the first time. Fatigued for the next two days, then good to go. One thing I noticed though. I had the injection in my left shoulder and the next day I had quite a bit of difficulty playing the violin. No big surprise actually as I never could play it - damned bowing!

After the second Pfizer shot I felt like crap...but I also haven't been sleeping due to major stress and everyone's allergies have been acting up big time so I expect it wasn't just the shot.

As far as not understanding people...social media is too much for our animal hindbrains. Conspiracy theories give everyone a chance to be a detective, to find the secrets that "they" don't want you to know. Just like all the movies we've all seen. It's a giant leap from where the conspiracies start to where they end up, but they get you there with small steps that, on their own, seem quite plausible.

All of this brought to us all by grifters who have one goal: making money. And perhaps an extra side of trolling just to see people get upset. Not one of them likely believes their own snake oil, from colon cleansing to 5G injections to fake moon landings to whatever comes next. Bottom line: These "influencers" GET PAID when people watch their videos and that's the only motivation needed to spread horseshit. Sadly as I say it seems that humans aren't capable of withstanding it. Social media is the Krell mind machine as far as I'm concerned.

In my post about the locals the two biggest I won't do masks or anything constantly parroting conspiracies and etc I feel aren't being honest with themselves or others. From what I can see is the real reason they are so upset is the fact their income flow has drastically fallen off do to the pandemic. Being upset about that is understandable and others could relate, but instead of just saying that they have to find someone to point fingers at because they can't point fingers at invisible germs. That person used to be the nicest person around never a bad word about anyone and everyone that met them liked them, now if one of the most bitter people and even their spouse is tried of hearing the constants rants. This person still has one-on-one students and moved some students to Zoom and doing okay. The other person has a small business that has been hit hard by the pandemic and he goes off on the government, but I show him where to apply for government programs to help small business during pandemic they won't because "you can't trust the government, they just want to try and screw me". I try to get him to sell online which there is a good market for and he won't do it. Some just prefer to rant than actually try to look for options and to make the best of a bad situation.

Both my 17 year old daughter and I got our 2nd Moderna yesterday. We both feel fine, but I do feel some symptoms empty nest syndrome coming on as my baby girl is making big plans to leave home for college. I don't know if the vaccination has heightened my feeling of sadness, but I've had an urge to cry a few times today just thinking about her departure scheduled for August. I do feel a little bit better about sending her off fully vaccinated though.

Got my first Moderna vaccine. The next day, my bicep felt like I'd arm-wrestled Zeus and I had some noticeable 'vax fog.' The following day, very little of either was present. This all seems like an excellent alternative to gasping out my last in a vent hood.

Got my first dose of the Pfizer shot yesterday. Very minor arm soreness but that's it. My twin sister is a hospital pharmacist and got both doses of the Pfizer back in January, she had no side effects after either shot, so I'm hopeful that my reaction to the second dose will be similar.

Second Pfizer shot yesterday. Super tired today, achey joints and a mild headache. Nothing too serious. Spent much of the day napping. Feeling better this evening. So happy to see light at the end of the tunnel. Doing some spring skiing with some friends next week. All vaccinated, sharing an indoor space (gasp!) with no masks! So grateful for modern medicine and everyone who hustled to make all this possible. Playing an actual live, outdoor gig in a few weeks. First once since October.

We're starting vaccinating 67+ here in the middle of the month (69+ until now). Don't expect anything for me until July (I'm 49). At least my parents have been (83 and 79).

I see the international news channels reporting about Brazil all the time now, so the current situation is probably not a surprise to most.

Indeed. My oldest's first year in college was far from ideal. I'm hoping he can experience something closer to a normal college experience.

Really unfortunate that my mom seems to be leaning away from getting a vaccine. She's given a number of reasons but I suspect it boils down to her political views. My aunt won't get it because it might "hurt her muscles" or some nonsense, but again I suspect that her political circles are a big influence. Same goes for my co-worker, though he's into the weeds with the conspiracy nonsense.

I went to the grocery store for the first time in a year (my wife has gone or we've gotten deliveries). Gotta love all the signs everywhere saying masks are required, someone over the loudspeaker saying masks are required--and lo, there are a sprinkling of aholes without masks. Hell, I'm vaccinated (which means I'm very unlikely to get or pass on covid, recent studies are showing) and I'm wearing a mask out of ****ing common courtesy if nothing else. Entitled, selfish pricks. Personally I wish the stores would hire security that would escort these morons out or better, not let them in at all. Sucks to be the employees at these places knowing that these customers are basically giving you the finger for "freedom" or whatever their stupid reasons are.

I'm still the only person I know that can say that I don't know if I've been vaccinated or not. They finally updated the study to unblind us though, and I'm hoping I find out at the appointment next week. If it was a placebo, they will give me the single shot (the study is for J&J two-shot regimen). Since I reacted to the two shots so far, I hope they were the real thing because I don't feel like having a third shot and possibly another reaction. I'll still do it, though. It will be interesting to find out what the two-shot J&J regimen does. Maybe it will bring the efficacy closer to the 90+% the mRNA shots have.

Meanwhile, certain relatives are not going to get vaccinated. It's really a bummer. They think it will be okay if we get together because my wife and I will be vaccinated. I don't think it's that simple. Sigh.

I never liked gyms (or being around people). Working out at home is cheap and easy, with a little resourcefulness you can cover all the muscle groups with little to no equipment or investment.

I'm debating the gym. My wife (without asking) bought a set of dumbbells...they are nice but I do miss being in the gym. That said, at my age I don't really do super prolonged workouts with a million different isolated exercises--I prefer compound ones and things like battle ropes, which I could do at home. Heck farmer's carries are one of the best things you can do, basically pick up heavy weights and walk...ok, I'd look weird to the neighbors but what's different about that anyway? :D

FWIW, I know from scientist friends who are not only closely in orbit with the process, but also had kids in trials, that initial considerations of fitting the placebo with an irritating agent of some kind (or even other vaccines) were deemed unethical. So if you had a reaction, chances are VERY high that you got the actual vaccine.
