I had a '57 Senator. It's the second from the bottom of the Hofner range - the base model being either the Congress or the Committee - I can't remember.

Mine was blond natural with one plain black bar pickup and no cutaway - oddly, the bass has a cutaway, and the usual early Hofner control plate with one vol, and three switches for bass/treble/lead.

It suffered the most common Hofner problem - the neck split off at the heel and had to be repaired. Many, many Hofners suffer this.

This isn't a good time of year to check Ebay, but in the UK good examples of this make quite decent money, often getting up to £300.00

Pal o'mine back in the 60's had one. True acoustic/electric. Properly set up they're great but prone to feedback. kent Armstrong will rewind Hofner pups. Nice low horns on the cutaways. Like most hollow-bodied Hofners, prone to neck breaking off at heel, although a proper repair seems to make it stronger than the original.

If you get a good one you're onto a winner.

I can't speak for the UK, but I don't think dealers want to pay much for them here - not a huge draw - they could sell 100 Strats for every Hofner that comes in the door. Verithins are cool, but the neck joint issue would have me concerned and not into paying a lot for it - gotta allow for a repair budget http://www.websmileys.com/sm/sad/533.gif down the road.
Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!

You *do* have a point, but as I said, they're easily getting £400 plus over here - most of them are repaired now, anyway. Once repaired, they seem to stay repaired.

I think there`s some confusion going on here-some people are talking about the original Verithin back in the 60s-Hofner has a new version of that model, wouldn`t score any vintage points. They`re available from Think Music in London, among other places.

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-
