I thought it was a hoax, but after extensive research, "me" is indeed moving to Colorado. Can't stand the freakin' flatness of ND anymore - or the winters. (windchills of minus 80 degrees?! What the f*ck?!!) I long for mountains, hippies, and an actual city with real, moving parts. I've outgrown Fischer-Price Villa. btw, Coaster, you'll always be on my "friends list" & if you're ever in my neck of the woods, you got a place to stay. (sniffle, sniffle.) Hey, botch; you're from Grand Forks, huh? Man, I used to kick around there all the time back in the day. It was waaay better than the town I originated from. Ever heard of Grafton?

mdpetrick, that's too cool. I was assigned to the 321st ICBM wing at Grand Forks, and we used to stop in Grafton for hot dogs and cocoa anytime we did maintenance on one of the northern missile silos (ya need lots of calories with that -80 windchill, right?). I'm sure you'll like Colorado a lot more, plus you can stop in a bar for an alcoholic drink when you want to (unlike Utah). Are you a skier?

Botch, this is pretty cool! Didn't think I'd ever run into anyone else at this forum from ND. Nope, never tried the skiing thing. I shall have to give it a go though. (God knows I'm heading to Colorado just at the right time to do it.) REALLY looking forward to settling in & attempting to put together a band. Good drummers are pretty sparse up here. Good musicians in general, unless you're starting a country band. I'm curious about your refference to the bar thing though. What's the story in Utah?

Well, in Utah, the Mormon church pretty much runs the state government, and it is particularly hard on the imbibers. No club can be "open", they're all "Private clubs" and you need either a sponsor or to become a member to go inside, membership fees (which of course, go to the church/state) range from $15 to 25 a year. They do allow "visitor's memberships", which are around $5 to 10, that are good for three weeks (if that sounds tailor-made for the upcoming Winter Olympics, well...). Despite this the club scene is not too bad, there are some pretty kicking bands out here. You'd get a chuckle out of the latest gadget: you've seen the metering devices that can be placed on liquor bottles, so that a precise amount is poured for each drink. Well, I don't know if these things exist anywhere else, but now they've got data cords attached to them (USB link?) so that the alcohol dispensed is registered in a computer somewhere!! Talk about Big Brother!

(too many military types there- NORAD, the Academy). Here in Boulder, you can hippy out all you want to. For some reason, we all congrate at 4:20 on Saturdays at the bandshell! :) ljp

I have a brother in the Springs who definitely leans more in the hippie than the military direction. He's not in audio but he certainly loves music & goes to lots of shows and knows the club scene there; If you're looking for someone to hang with or help finding resources there drop me a line & I'll give you his e-mail. Hey, thanks PBerolz :D I may take you up on that. Yeah, I know Colorado Springs isn't exacly the center of hippie culture, but there is some weirdness in that area. Out in Manitou Springs - four miles west of Co Springs - they have coffin races every October. COFFIN RACES! Way too damn cool. Hippies, goths, weirdos of all sorts - I shall become one with them. I will tell them of the flatness of my home-land. I will share with them photos of people in bib-overals. They will gasp. I will play for them many recordings of people who sound "Just like people in that movie -Fargo!" They will call me "Zen Master of the Northern Territories", yet they will accept me as one of their own. I will finally meet women who DON'T like Winger, Skid Row, Clint Black OR Shania Twain. Though if none of this should come to be, I shall find a bar, order a large glass of beer and remember how damn lucky I am to have finally escaped the clutches of this flat, frosty cesspool...

They'll be too busy listening to John Denver's greatest hits. :D

The 'Springs is nice, because it's hilly, and you can't really see the whole town at once. And it's nestled right up to the mountains. My brother lives there, so I'm there alot. Lots of mountain biking, hiking, whatever... ljp

Hey, I live in the Springs. A couple of words of advice. Try to live as far west as you can or downtown. There is a lot more going on in the Westside, Old Colorado City or Manitou Springs. Also check out KEPC 89.7 on the radio. Its the only really happening music on the air. I've really enjoyed the 15 years I've lived here so I hope you like it too.
But never fear, you're safe with me... Well maybe. - Les
