CD Baby was founded by Derek Sivers in 1998 and is the second largest independent CD retailer on the Internet. Dave Isaacs, a songwriter and inte gral player in providing inspiration for this CD Baby artist alliance, provides this commentary on the CD charity compilation project: "In the immediate aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, I and many other musicians I know watched everyday peopl e h eroically rush to the aid of the victims, and we felt powerless.....almost guilty that our frivolous pursuits weren't more useful to the rescue effort. But as we as a community began to try to make sense of what happened, an awareness began to emerge t hat there was indeed something important we could do. Knowing how music has helped each of us through rough times in each of our lives, we all began to realize that music could be a powerful force to heal, uplift, and unite our wounded nation. And creating a CD to benefit the disaster relief effort would also give us a vehicle to help in a more concrete way. This project represents the collected efforts of a community of musicians that have been brought together as never before by the events of September 11th. We offer a heartfelt wish that that process of healing, uplifting, and uniting will continue to grow.....and a fervent belief that "The World Will Remember". I think everyone I know wanted to find some way to contribute to the relief effort, and also to help ourselves begin to recover emotionally. This project gives us a way to help both in a concrete way, through fundraising, and in all the more intangible ways that music can uplift and heal."
