Microfrets guitars

Anybody remember these? Saw one in a shop yesterday - butt-ugly but seemingly well made, good neck, world's most hideous headstock. WTF, were they built for the blind? Nothing at all attractive about its shape, but it's a thin semi-hollow, and they want what a new American Standard Strat or Tele would cost. Any collectors looking for these?

Yeah, they're, uh, different, aren't they?

I don't believe I've ever seen one up close; they were gone for decades, then recently started up production again...

Of course, if I saw one somewhere, old or new, I'd HAVE to try it out!

How 'bout these for the ugliest AND least-functional headstock design ever?!?

I loath and despise those Musicvox wooden abortions; their prominent design features not only look bad, they do either NOTHING for playability or sound, or actually detract from it (tell me those stupid and hideous headstocks with all of those dumb-@$$3d string-trees don't make for pathetic tuning-stability!!)...

I wouldn't insult myself, nor any of the great slide guitarists we've been blessed with over the years, by strapping such a turd of a so-called guitar on for slide-duties...

My very first stringed electric instrument was a Micro-Frets bass.

In addition to Japanese-monster-movie visual design ethic, their claim-to-fame was an intonation-adjustable nut. Which I can't imagine is/was a vast improvement.

I remember it as a pretty good, functional instrument, but I'm sure that's colored by nostalgia. (I was 15, what did I know?)

I saw Mark Farner play a Micro-Frets guitar on the "American Band" tour.

And here ends my knowledge of things Micro-Frets.
