OT: info on cable

Hey guys, I am on Comcast cable and when I signed up they offered this really cheap special. I can't remember what it was but it was like $50 total cheaper than what I have now (digital and internet) but of course it was a special that lasted for like 6 months or a year or something.

I was thinking, now that I am paying top dollar for my package, could I cancell my service and then have my girlfriend who just moved in open a new account in her name to get the specials?

I figure one of you guys might know about this. If anyone has any information, or another way to get it cheap please let me know. Thanks

I've heard of people cancelling their account, waiting a month or so, and then starting it back up at the special rate.

I had cable internet for a while, but I'm back on dial-up now. Since I'm not downloading songs, homework assignments from the college, or porn :D , it's not a problem being on dial-up.

Have you considered going to DSL? It's often cheaper than cable, and is good for folks that mostly just surf, watch a few videos, and do modest downloading.

I don't know if your girlfriend could take advantage of the offer. If she's living under the same roof as you, I don't think the cable companies would be dumb enough to just give her the discounted rate. They'd have the address on file, in the first place. Not to mention, the extra hassle the techs might possibly go through. I wouldn't know, actually, but like I said before... :)

Yeah, but if I cancel mine and say I am moving, take back the box give my parent's address for the remaining balance, say I am moving there.

Then my girlfriend calls and says she is moving in my address and asks for cable hookup on a specific date.

You think that would work?

Make sure the offer is being made in person and you have it in writing. Charter cable made me a great TV and internet offer, lasting the rest of the year, over the phone.

They came out and installed it and guess what? The bill is $30 more than what I was quoted. It's actually full price. The local office says they don't know about any specials or who I talked to about it.
