Shoes
"that thing in E" ..I recall playing regularly with some fellows years back and actually filling great voids with this "that thing in E" 20+ years and I can still rip it out. I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.
Mike Gug
That thing in E. And "She Sells Sanctuary", by The Cult. The main riff is easy and it sounds VERY cool with echo, chorus and distortion. Mikegug www.facebook.com/theresistancemusic

musicalhair
Wow, some great choices there. I also like Key to the Highway. Can't Get Next to You is a great one. Blue Bossa usually works in any crowd once people know the changes-- I wonder if that is the tune you were refering to. I often use "framents" for jamming, like the first 8 bars of Theme to an Imaginary Western by Mountain are nice but not everyone knows the whole tune, so I just build off the first 8 bars and if things work out then maybe consider if people want to actually learn it. Same with Living for the City by Stevie Wonder, I like the 12 bar part which is like a 2 bar riff played four times (getting us 8 bars into the tune) with the IV-V for bars 9 and 10 and the riff again. I skip the 3/4 part unless people know it. Hurricane is a great jamming tune. check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. skipclone 1
me? no, I love the whole genre. I have a tape of `Jazz from Holland` from NPR-there`s a group called Bacan or Bakan-something like that. I`ve been jamming to it lately, the lead singer is from Brazil and also plays the piano. Gad these guys are good, I think the guitarist is a conservatory graduate. Gotta get around to looking them up on the net. That`s a cool idea about song frgaments-I really like the way Steely Dan`s `King of the World` rides out.
