A String
Not to be weird about this, but I thought we might need a rule in place regarding the master list. The last request I received was from Tristan Klien. Tristan has 3 posts. He seems like a great guy and his site rocks so I added him. This led me to wonder about spammers. It wouldn't surprise me to have a spammer ask to be added, then never return. I would be spending all of my free time adding spammers to the list while it grew to ridiculous size. My question is, because the list is for "Forumites", should a person have to have a certain number of posts before they can be added. If so, what is a reasonable number? Thanks in advance for the input guys. Oh, and sorry to use you as an example Tristan. Welcome to the forum! BillWelcome Home Studios
I think that the decisions should be on the shoulders of the guy handling the issue. If I don't gotta deal with it, why am I givng him limitations? I think that we should trust him to do the right thing, and to understand if perhaps on occasion he should make a human error. "Rules"? Well, if you really GOTTA have rules, make something uo that suits you. For one, I believe in fewer rules and more good behaviour. PBBPaul
What Bill said. If you don't want to deal with it, I would more than understand. Maybe change the title to "Established Forumites". A String
It's not really a matter of not wanting to deal with it. My concern is that we have people who drop in, post the name of their website and leave, never to be seen again. If these people request to be added to the list, should there be a requirement that you need to actually be a forumite, (As could be proven through a certain number of posts), or do we allow every one who passes by to add their name. I personally feel that there should be a limit to maintain the integrity of the list so you can find the webpage of a person you are chatting with etc. Then you don't have to worry about the list become so big that you need "Google" to locate a name in it. I did not want to run it as a dictatorship where I made the final decision on how the list should be run. The list is there for all of the forumites to use and as such, everyone here should have input as to it's operation. Please bear in mind that I'm not trying to be a pain in the rear here, just trying to be fair. You've got my opinion.... the guy who has to do the work should be free to determine how to do the work. (It's a hallmark of my management style... hire someone who knows what they are doing, then try to stay out of their way while they do it.) NMcGuitar
I don't envy your position here, A String. But maybe a certain number of posts isn't such a bad idea. It used to be (I believe it has changed, but I'm not sure) that you needed 35 posts before you could add an avatar. Why not something like that? You don't want to set the bar too high, but high enought that the 3-post-spammers (since they often post on a couple of different pages here) wont't be clogging things up. Then, there's always the question of people like Bra-la-la-la-la-la (however many "las" it was...), or CARMINE. I think that since you maintain it, I am more than willing to defer to any standards you care to work by. A String
Yes, 35 was the number I was thinking. When you have enough posts that you qualify for an avatar, you are officially a fourmite and may add your website to the list. Unless anyone opposes, I think that is what I will do. Guitarzan
i would wait and see if someone is going to hang a bit before even considering adding them. like you said we get alot of hit and run spammers. it is nice to converse with the guys who post music. but less enjoyable just to be considered an audience. it would be easier on you as well. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
Shoes
Hey... 35 posts and you're likely starting to make sense of this place. You need to appreciate the balance here of give and take and appreciate it takes all kinds to make this place work. Sounds like perfectly fine reasoning. This reminds me of something that came up at the office just the other day. You see David, the HVAC guy has been (baking)with the managers secretary, Monica, and at lunch somebody who was pissed off happened to mention this in the cafeteria only to start an argument regarding who likely deserved to get their balls kicked more David or the guy who blurted this out... no... actually it's not like that at all.. sorry Dave... I'll get you a coffee tomorrow and we're cool .. right? I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.
