Digital mixer recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm pretty much resigned to get a digital mixer. I have a fostex D1624, and I'd like to run it through either a DA7, Spirit 328, or the new Tascam D24. I've heard good things about the first two, the last one is still new for enough feedback. Or? #1 concern is sound quality. bells and whistles not high on the list. thanks for any feedback!!

I'd personally opt for either a Yamaha digital console or the Ramsa. I have a Tascam TM-D4000 digital mixer, and after seeing how quickly Tascam discontinued this mixer, even while large bugs still exist, I will probably not buy another Tascam digital product again until they fix these bugs. Rumor has it that they will be providing a software update for this mixer soon, so I might feel better once I get my hands on the update. Who knows, maybe the D24 will be different, but I'd wait it out until some reviews come out just to be safe. Plus, the Ramsa is supposed to sound the best out of the current crop of sub $10,000 digital mixers. If I were starting over again I'd probably go with the Ramsa. -Dylan This message has been edited by Dylan Walters on 10-19-2001 at 12:07 PM

I bought a DA7 and love the thing...I use it every day. It's been a solid performer, and the updates have been useful. Mackie's d8b is more costly but after a shaky start, has solidified into a stable and good-sounding piece of gear. Yamaha has been doing this for longer than anyone else. However, it seems more of their energies are going into integrating digital mixing with recording rather than coming out with new mixer-only products. The Spirit is a nice piece of gear and has several interfaces built in. Still, I'd have to give the pricier DA7 a bit of a sonic edge. I don't have any experience with the TASCAM digital consoles, sorry. My 2 cents...
