Billster
Damn, you beat me to it. I was thinking this morning "I'll change my screen name for a little while" As for Goodenow and Bettman, a pox on both their houses. Buy my CD on CD Baby! Bill Hartzell - the website MySpace?!?! The morons in charge seem to blow/suck/whatever. The hockey lords are a pretty financially well-off group. How did they make their money in the first place if they can't even manage a hockey team? Mudcat
I thought for sure Goodenow was going to agree to the last offer from the league. I believe he has really done a disservice to the low to mid-range paid players. My understanding is that the proposed cap would really only adversely impact less than 10% of the players. If the proposal had been put to a vote I'm pretty confidant it would have been ratified. Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. Eat hard. Sleep hard. Grow big. Billster
THe cap amount at $42 million would have affected less than half of the teams at present. The total dollars were about limiting future salary growth, so that it was a reasonable percentage of total league income. What about guys late in their career? Good bye Steve Yzerman If a player was in the last year of his contract for 04-05, is he a free agent now that the 05 season is over; or did this never happen, and he owes a year of service (to a team that locked him out of work )? This whole thing should have never happened. A pox on both their houses. Buy my CD on CD Baby! Bill Hartzell - the website MySpace?!?!
fantasticsound
Yeah... I believe we lost a large chunk of change because of this, as well. We produced the major benefit the past few years for the Nashville Predators Foundation. I can't imagine they'll be holding a gala event with no hockey season. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. ihategarybettman
Mudcat, I was seriously considering changing my name to your present one but, between the two of us, I think we've got the situation covered. Goodenow is a tool and now (too late) many players seem to be starting to see that. I constantly read statements like "If the union was going to accept a cap, why didn't they do it two months ago?" Hopefully, this mess will get straightened out soon so that next season and the League itself won't be affected more than they already have. There has been a tremendous negative downstream financial impact to small businesses and part-time arena employees because of this work-action. I'm still hacked off about this and I only go to one or two games a year. On a side note, I'm probably going to switch my screen name back to Mudcat after the weekend. It's not healthy to carry around these negative vibes very long. Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. Eat hard. Sleep hard. Grow big. This was the big talk on Nashville sports radio the last two days. I know for a fact several of the Predators think Goodenow has not been looking out for their best interests and the late in the game flip-flop on the cap was totally inconsistent with everything he had said up to that point. ihategarybettman
There was an interesting quote in today's Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050218/1058750.asp): "Just before the season was called off, high-profile players Jarome Iginla, Chris Pronger and Jeremy Roenick had promoted, without the sanction of NHL Players' Association Executive Director Bob Goodenow, a salary cap deal of around $45 million. The insubordinate proposal was met with a degree of acceptance within the union, but many players were upset at the end run. 'There's a strong feeling Goodenow needed to beat back a renegade group in the union,' said one league source." I reiterate: Bob Goodenow is a tool.
