Had my best acoustic tone ever at yesterday's performance...

My speakers are really unusual, so I don't know how the EQ is going to come out on the recording of yesterday's performance. I use 2 ported cabs with KEF B139 drivers in them. I blended a buddy's Shure SM58 mic with the onboard Fishman for the first time in a live performance through my Mackie 808M and the sound in the house (my church) was really perfect for the vibe I was shooting for. I never would have expected a Shure SM58 (or 57) to work as well for an acoustic as it did. The piece we did for the anthym was called "I'm Goin' Back" by The Booth Brothers and it sounded like it came straight out of "O Brother Where Art Thou"! Wicked fun piece to do, but rehearsal in the morning was kind of tough on my fretting hand... It was a pretty "busy" piece for one who hadn't played much in the last couple of months. It pumped up to a point where it looked like it was going to explode any minute!

Anyway, I tried to get both the acoustic tone and the Tele twang from the original CD at will when I wanted the appropriate emphasis and I think I actually managed to do it yesterday! I'll need to figure out how to get both the mic and the onboard plugged into my sound card without a mixer...

BTW, my other buddy Tim (who sang the lead part and recorded the piece live) and the rest of the Circle of Friends sounded awesome, too!!! When the link of the recording becomes available, I'll post it if it doesn't totally suck... Boggs

Whenever I think of the ultimate acoustic tone, I think of James Taylor. I sure would like to know how he gets that phenomenal, bell-like tone.

That said, yep, Boggs, I've had good results live mixing a mic signal with a pickup. Glad to hear it worked well for ya!

Well, I heard the recording and what got recorded was not what we heard, that's for sure... Bottom end was about non-existent on the recording which came off of the monitor section of the mixer, not what came from the speakers. We need to do some drastic work on our recording techniques, for sure. Very difficult to do when you do not have a dedicated sound person...
