mstreck
I am 6'2" and 250 pounds. Because of my height (and my girth), my strap is too short to allow my guitar to hang down where I want it. I've looked for longer straps but just can't seem to find any. Do any companies make strap extenders or can someone give me an idea to get around this problem? Liposuction is not an option. Thanks, Mike Petting Hendrix Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked in the head by an iron boot? Of course you don't--no one does--that never happens. coyote
Custom is the way to go. The average commercial strap is less stble then it oughta be to begin with; an extension is just asking for trouble. I've always done my on custom straps. I just get a tanned strip of hide, the kind normally used for real leather 'western'-style belts. Then I set it up at the length I use. It need not b adjustable! After all, it's MY strap fo MY guitar. Non-adjustble straps are far more stable & secure. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. mstreck
I'm not sure about leather straps. The one I use with my acoustic doesn't get along well with sweat and tends to be uncomfortable around my neck. I think I'll try to find the extra long nylon strap that Guitarzan mentioned first. If that doesn't work out, then I'll try leather. Thanks, Mike Petting Hendrix Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked in the head by an iron boot? NMcGuitar
Have you considered joining two straps together? Either with a locking pin of some sort where the strap button would go, or stitching the pieces with a nylon thread? Just a thought. May all your thoughts be random! - Neil www.McFaddenArts.com www.MikesGarageRocks.com

I was a little worried about the stability of the stitching. But my wife thinks she can pull it off with the super-duper sewing machine that I bought her last year. We'll see. Thanks! baronedo
There are a few options that come to mind, all of which will require some handy work on your part. First I would start with a standard adjustable black nylon webbing guitar strap (usually made of 2 inch wide seatbelt type nylon strap material). Next, call around to speciality fabric and sewing shops, and find one that carries this 2 inch wide nylon web strap material as bulk material which can be purchased by the foot. Buy a sufficient length to make up a new guitar strap. You will also need to either buy a hand sewing awl (check with the sewing shop or with Army Navy store outlets or outdoor catalog stores like Cabelas, Sportmansguide, or Gander Mountain)or else buy some larger heavy duty hand sewing needles from the sewing shop and some heavy duty black thread (carpet quality) Next, take a good look at how your store bought guitar strap is assembled which will usually include two attachment ends and an adjustment slide near the middle. Make a drawing of this to be used for your new strap and then start taking the old strap apart (with scissors and razor blades as needed to cut the stiching, etc.). With your new strap material and needle and thread, reassemble your new strap with the components of the old strap in the same manner the old one was put together. The key, IMHO, is to make a lamb's wool or cotton pad for the area that hugs your shoulder, with cotton batting for filler so as to be as breathable as possible. (Not to mention washable! ) I haven't done this myself, however, I own a thick, padded leather strap. It's 2½ to 3 inches wide and ¼ to ½ inch thick. It's hands down the most comfortable strap I've ever used or seen. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd
Wewus432
Screw it man, just get a piece of rope long enough for the job, untwine the ends enough to tie it to the guitar, and then put a little throw pillow under your shoulder to keep the rope from digging in.
