Bumblebee revisited...

"Flight of the Bumblebee" by Rimsky-Korsakov? I've been mucking about with it. I'm no shredder, but it seems like it could be pulled off with a bit of practice.

Now that would raise a couple of eyebrows, huh?

I'd need to get a proper transcription.

satrianis one is completely sick!!!!!

i'm useless at that fast stuff on account of playing commando (without pick). :D

i'v often thought about learning it half speed or whatever, but the fast picking excersises i already do i have to master first, so thats plenty to be getting on with. and thats all "flight of the bumblebee" would be, an excersise. hard, physical excersise :D

I've not heard it, but didn't Extreme record it?? I have a vague memory of Nuno whatsiname saying in an interview that he recorded it with a delay pedal (always said he was over-rated :D )

'Flight' only acquires its true character when played by an entire roomful of guitarists. I did that, ages ago - there were about 25 of us playing it together, and MAN did it sound like a horde of buzzing bumblebees....

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

:thu: Coyote!

Ted, I've heard several shred-guitarists do this over the years, including Batten. For what I assume are obvious reasons it is a cult favorite for superfast neo-classical-rock guitarists. I worked on it a while before conceding defeat. :( I just can't play it nearly as fast as I'd have liked to.

Yeah, Chris...you're on the right track, that's sorta like what I was coming up with last night. Not quite that fast (my fingers ain't that fast) but, I'd have to work up to it.

Keep at it, bro, a couple little tweakazoids here and there and you'll have it!

And thanks for the link, MWest... :D

Joey Demaio, the bass player for Manowar did a version of it called "Sting of the Bumblebee" on the "Kings of Metal" album. I saw him perform it live and it was pretty impressive.

You can hear some of it here

If I remember correctly he was playing a Ric 4001.

Nothing is as it seems but everything is exactly what it is - B. Banzai

Life is what happens while you are busy playing in bands.

Oh, I've got a bit of practicing to do before I can do that. But, I will soon... ;)

Er...forgive my blindness, Jim, but, now that you have an avatar...er...what is it? I can't tell...

Looks like a Final Fantasy character to me.

As for that Bumblebee number, John Petrucci had his own response to that. In the "An Evening With John Petrucci, and Jordan Rudess" album, he wrote a piece called 'Bite of the Mosquito'. Yep, no kidding. Pretty good. Rudess plays the chords on piano, while Petrucci rips it out on guitar.

Hopefully this one will be a little bigger and clearer, stand by while I fine tune my avatar skills. As a first attempt I chose this pic I took in Northern Ontario last summer of a "stick lady" adorning the wall of a little artsy-type store in a small town in the middle of cottage country. I thought she was very well dressed though....

Okay, I posted this last month...I've been working on it. It's still sloppy, and I don't really know it (need the music or transcription which I still don't have)...but here's my feeble, sloppy take on it. It's a work in progress. Recorded with an Ibanez Talman with P-90s through a POD 2.0 on the "Rectifier" setting with light chorus...
