NMcGuitar
I know there've been a number of threads about band names, but I need some ideas. We're a blues/classic rock band. Five guys ranging in age from 40 to 49. We have a pretty loose/easy stage personality (some joking around, and we tend to get the audience involved a lot), but are pretty darn tight when it comes to the music. Not that we don't stretch out & jam sometimes, or take any risks (like playing a song we had never done together because someone requested it, and we all sorta knew it), but beginnings, endings, breaks, and so forth are pretty sharp. We're not about to set the world on fire (or even out little corner of Maryland), but we have fun, our audiences have fun, and people keep telling us that they like us and that we sound good. We started out as "Outta the Blue". Pretty much everyone liked that one. Except the singer. For some reason he really can't stand that one. Okay. Fine. We're just doing this to have a good time, so if one of us really hates the name, the rest of us have no problem with changing it. Next, we changed it to "Mike's Garage" (since we rehearse in..... __________ - yeah, you're way ahead of me on this one ). All five of us feel like this name is "okay". Nobody really loves it, but nobody really hates it either. Crowd reaction when we played under this name was "Great band! Stupid name, though...". So... we changed it again (sort of). We had a gig 2 weeks ago, and just called ourselves CRB (although I think we only actually said it once the whole night). This simply stood for "Classic Rock and Blues" - fortunately, no one asked. We are starting to get a few bigger gigs, and are trying to get an emailing list together, BUT WE NEED A NAME!!! Therefore, I am asking all of you for suggestions. I know we'll get side-tracked into some silly stuff, and that's fine. This should be at least a little bit fun . But I'm seriously asking for suggstions too. Help! Thanks folks! Shoes
This was a looooong time ago and since retired so any of these area free for the taking should you be so bold. A long time ago in my parents cottage we invented Frank Gravy & the Rustic Underwear. This eventually migrated to Live Trash then Live Garbage which seemed to stick for a short while before we heard Johnny Fever call himself Heavy Early! We liked this for a number of reasons and now it makes even more sense than it did then. No... that likely didn't help did it. I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder. TimEm
My band just went through this too... It took us forever to find something we all could agree on. Here's a couple from the list of a hundred or so that we couldn't agree on - I'm not saying there great but you're more than welcome to any of 'em. And I can't say for sure that there aren't already bands out there with these names but here you go... Billster
Once upon a time, my band was going to be called Blueshift (the phenomenon of a fast moving object bending the light behind it to a blue cast) I thought is sounded both roots (Blues) and Progressive (shift). That concept is probably gone for me, so have it if you like. Another idea: What town are you in. How about "The Blasters" or something. Then there's always: Dollar Beer Sorority Initiation Night Porn Star Auditions And finally, there was a band that opened for me once called "Blue Chunks" There's an attractive idea Buy my CD on CD Baby! I always liked the name " Junkshop Diamonds". It kind of evokes the image of being a tight group in an informal atmosphere. Plus it has that classic rock sound to it. Doesn't look llike I'm going to have a band anytime soon....so you're welcome to it. Kinda like the name "Porn Star Auditions" the most so far. BillWelcome Home Studios
Originally posted by moeblues04: Kinda like the name "Porn Star Auditions" the most so far.well, that is just stupid, because it is misleading. I'd expect a punk band or something on the edge, not a blues/classic rock band. Names are really not such a big deal, so long as they are not misleading or offensive. Pick anything somewhat unique, and don't stress over it. It only exists to diferentiate you from the guy next to you, it doesn't really have to have any deep, significant meaning. Oh, and smaller names equate to bigger type faces in ads. Think, one word rather than 12.
