BillWelcome Home Studios
Hey all, I've admired the Gibson 336 chambered bodied guitar for years. I saw and played a couple of the original prototypes back before the line was introduced. (The originals were very striking. Of the 2 that I played, one had a purple stained top and one had a pink stained top. Both had a very attractive narrow headstock with straight string pull.) Well, I was finally able to pick one up. Happens to be a Lucky Strike model, with the narrow headstock. It plays like a dream, wonderful neck, great feel, everything that I remembered. But the pickups are not to my taste. (I actually hate them. Fuzzy, distorted, not in a good way ... at least, for me... ) I'm considering dumping a pair of P-90s in there, but they might not fit (pretty deep for the shallow thickness of the body)so I'm asking for opinions on replacement humbucking size/style pickups. Who likes what, and why? Bill "I believe that entertainment can aspire to be art, and can become art, but if you set out to make art you're an idiot." Bbach1
Bill, I've turned into a P90 man at this time. Who knows what my future tastes will be. Duncan makes a P90 Phat Cat that is the size of a humbucker so you might be able to replace your hums with those and not have to do any modification. I'm looking at that scenerio right now with a guitar I'm thinking of buying. bbach Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.

That might be the issue. I haven't taken any measurements yet, though. Bill "I believe that entertainment can aspire to be art, and can become art, but if you set out to make art you're an idiot."
