LiveMusic
Do you play this song on acoustic and if you do, what do you do when you get to the part after the slow part? Do you end it or what? Or do you play that part but not the extended solo? Kinda hard to do that if you're playing solo. > > > [ Live! ] < < <
Tedster
"No Stairway!" No Stairway!?!?! Denied!!! Well, the end bit is more of an issue of voice than guitar. I'm not going to falsetto scream "And as we wind on down the road" over an acoustic. But...for some acoustic suggestions on how to approach Zeppelin stuff...there was an "unplugged" video that Page and Plant did several years ago. I don't know if Stairway was on it, but I do remember that Plant was singing appropriately for acoustic guitar, in other words, he wasn't launching into falsetto screams like he would have with blaring guitars. If you can find that tape, it'd probably be a good guideline... "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
g.
I like the touch stylie Stanley Jordan version : } He pretty much did it all when I saw him at The Seattle center Arena ages ago, and not unlike Mahavishnu's THE DANCE OF MAYA. Get crazy! .

mwestenberg
I've played this and just left out the solo part and sang the last section in a lower octave. The last vocal section has the same rhythm part as the solo so there would be no transition problems. Lyrics. Wasted space between solos. I can't tell you, but I can play it for you. Here. Well, actually, my hometown. Just my opinion, but I'd never do that song unless I had a really new and unique arrangement (Clapton's "Layla" acoustic version comes to mind) or I was able to faithfully nail the album version note for note. Half way doing it would cause more laughter than anything else, and more discussion about what you were not capable of than what you were capable of doing. If you manage that one, could "Bohemian Rhapsody" be far behind? Again, just my opinion. Dennyf
It's in my setlist for solo gigs at the boardwalk, but I do this version. No guitar solo, just straight into the falsetto part after the big D chord ostentation. Never misses. band link: bluepearlband.com music, lessons, gig schedules at dennyf.com STURGEON'S LAW --98% of everything is bullshit. My Unitarian Jihad Name is: The Jackhammer of Love and Mercy. Freddie would roll over in his grave, but it'd still be great, especially if everyone was reeeeally drunk, and the singer/acoustic guy could kinda almost pull it off... fantasticsound
I've never performed it on a gig, but when people listening in small groups would request it I'd simply play it, warts and all, which is an accurate description of my attempt to do the solo on my acoustic guitar. But I never heard one complaint. It gave me a chance to be comical while giving them what they wanted. In the same vein, a friend phoned me at 6:30am on July 4th when I was 20 years old. A scheduling snafu caused a band to show up the preceding week for what they thought was a gig that turned out was supposed to be for the Independence Day festivities. Their screw up meant a gaping hole in the entertainment. My buddy's voice teacher phoned him to sing a few songs to tracks and he phoned me to join him. In the middle of the Billy Joel, "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me" track she copied for us to rehearse to, the sound faded out for unexplained technical reasons. When we arrived at the venue, to our dismay, she didn't have the original. Nobody told the soundman. When the audio faded out, he tried to "fix" it. We ended up humming the sax solo and finishing it acapella. The audience, realizing this was not intended, ate it up. I don't know if you can pull this out in an attempt to be funny with the solo played on acoustic, but when it works it draws the audience in. Still, I'd try to work up an alternate solo section if I were to play it out on a gig. It's easiest to find me on Facebook.
