The Lone Chicken
The following is my take on "My Town", the popular song by the country-rock duo Montgomery Gentry. Just thought I'd share this with you all. __________________________________________________ "MY HOME" (sung to tune of "My Town" by Montgomery Gentry) Music by Jeffrey Steele and Reed Nielson; new words written 9-18-04 by Robert J. ("Bob") Welch III. For many years I was always wanderin' I always felt that I was all alone I never found a place where I could fit in I never had a sense that I belonged But then one day my Savior's love reached out to me And then I knew I found my way back home... To my home (na-na-na-na-na-na) Yeah, this is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) Well, I was lost, but now I'm found With the grace of God there are no bounds I was blind, but now I see 'Cause I know He shed His blood for me One day soon we'll all be gone When He comes back to take us home This is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) Yeah, this is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) My home Well, I truly think we're in the final hour And very soon He's coming back for me and you And I'm glad to be a part all God's doin' And a part of all that He is gonna do Sunday morning, at Victory Christian Fellowship There's not an empty seat to be found... And this is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) Yeah, this is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) My home! (guitar solo) So if through all your years you've been wanderin' And you find yourself feeling all alone Let me take you to a place where you will fit in And to a Savior to whom you do belong Let's head on out to Victory Christian Fellowship And if you want a seat we better leave right now And before you know it, you will realize... This is your home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) Yeah, this is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) Well, I was lost, but now I'm found With the grace of God there are no bounds I was blind, but now I see 'Cause I know He shed His blood for me One day we'll all be gone When He comes back to take us home This is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) Yeah, this is my home! (na-na-na-na-na-na) My home! __________________________________________________ Robert J. Tedster
Have you performed your version at your Church yet? I'd be interested in hearing about the reaction it gets. I'm not sure about how rights work as far as "for performance" type things for rewrites of secular songs. I would imagine that anything done to a given song, whether it was "Gospelized" or even "Weird Al parodied" would fall under similar legal ramifications. Someday, who knows? I mainly came up with this for the fun of it, without any real thought as to whether it would "go anywhere". I am of course aware of the legal copyright ramifications involved in publically re-doing someone else's song, and I know that it would be a good idea to get permission from the original composers to actually perform it. Also, the leadership of my church, being that they believe in the importance of doing everything legally and "above-board" (as do I), would also want to seek such permission before allowing such a song to be presented there. Oh by the way, Tedster, as a diehard "Stratman", I very much liked your "Cat With The Strat" avatar. Robert J. Tedster
Thanks Lone Bob I really don't know that there are anything more than implied royalty issues, as long as you're not getting paid to perform the song, or no one is receiving any monetary gain from its performance. Therein lies the difference between what you have there, and, say, a Weird Al parody. Or so I imagine. Anyone else know the answers to these questions?
