Compact Diss
I had a really good time. We listened to some music and saw great footage from a video of Howlin' Wolf and Sun House. We went over some theory and got some background knowledge of the professor and why he is doing what he is doing. His words were due to the Blues dying out he wanted to do something to preserve them and keep them alive. Here's a link to the class: http://courses.dce.harvard.edu/~musie139/ BB King was the guest lecturer last year. He said he had asked BB to return this year and BB's reply was "If I'm free". Last year BB called him and gave him three days notice that he would be doing the lecture...may I be so lucky!. I also believe that it may be a public event so I will let all you locals around here know about it if it happens-- 33, back in college...can't say it's tough with this course...I think this one is more designed to be informative than anything else. I'll do my best. I'll keep you guys updated. Right now I think I'll be doing the "Box Set" for the assignment. Time is limited!

Compact Diss
Wanted to throw out too that my professor feels that The Paul Butterfield Blues Band is responsible for starting Blues in America, or waking America up to the style of music. A good quote he said last night: "Only one note is needed to make expression", before this he told a story about a coal mining town with a train that went up and down the same route everyday and all the people in the town knew who was driving the train by the sound of the whistle blow. One note, but different ways of playing it. "projecting their identity". If you think about all the different train whistles you've heard it made a nice statement.
