Are rappers musicians?

I don't like rap, I don't like hip hop; that doesn't mean YOU can't like it - just don't pick on me for NOT liking it, I don't pick on you if you don't like blues or jazz

just compare it to food: I don't like liver, you do... you eat it, I don't - are we going to have a sociologic survey/rant on this? then why about musical TASTE?? because that's what it is TASTE...

- due to recent cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been SWITCHED OFF

I personally don't care much at all for rap music as a whole, and I certainly don't care for the sexual and violent themes that are often conveyed in rap. Several years ago my wife and I went to a meeting at our daughter's school, and there was this kid listening to a rap song turned up quite loud on his car stereo, and it seemed like just about every other word was an "F" word, while the remaining words spoke about killing someone or something like that. Having said all that, however, there is both good and bad in every style and genre of music and entertainment, and the same goes for rap--there are also rappers who use their music to convey a positive message while actually sounding halfway decent. One rapper whose music I do like is an artist by the name of T-Bone, who last year was the headlining act for "Christfest", an annual free Christian concert held right here in Fostoria, OH (outside in the downtown section) and featuring mostly regionally based contemporary, R&B, and hip-hop artists and groups. T-Bone put on a great concert which my wife Maria and I both enjoyed very much. As to whether rap is music, like with any style of music, that is a matter of personal opinion and taste. I could think that what someone else does is not real music, but they could think the same thing about what I do. That, I believe, is a part of each of us reaching out beyond ourselves and getting to know, understanding, and respecting (though not necessarily agreeing with) those whose culture, style, and approach to music and to life overall may be different than ours.
