Mudcat
I know this is spammish - but I totally dig this band and wanted to spread the word. Of note is the fact that Webb has got the "classic" line-up of the Beat-Necks back together including Donny Roberts (lead guitar on Steve Earl's "Copperhead Road"), Jimmy Lester (aka Les James Lester, drummer for Los Straitjackets) and Denny Blakey on bass (aka Cletus Wollensack). If you ever had a chance to see this line-up play together in the late 80s you are a fortunate person. They put on a real fun show and are all great musicians. Anyway, they're playing an early show tomorrow at 3rd & Lindsley (7:30 PM). I, unfortunately, can't make it, though I will be buying a copy of the CD re-release. Here's a link to the story in the City Paper and a link to Webb\'s website . "Work hard, rock hard, eat hard, sleep hard, grow big, wear glasses if you need 'em." jlh
Cool, I noticed your avatar of Webb in the past and the quote. I almost commented but didn't. The Beatnecks is one of my favorite bands EVER! I got turned on to them while I was going to Western Kentucky University in the early '80s and listening to WRVU a lot. Boy do I wish I could be at this one, I used to see them in the bars on East End and their shows were so great. Donnie is one of my top 5 favorite guitarists and I've spent many hours copping his licks. Saw Los Straitjackets a few years ago and they were awesome too. I'm green with vegetable envy. Have a great time and post a review if you get a chance. Horror Hay rides again! Jamie But never fear, you're safe with me... Well maybe. - Les

There are six new songs from an Exit In show that were not on the original LP release or the first CD release. I managed a band called the Blind Farmers from Hell that opened up a lot of shows for the Beatnecks back then so I ended up seeing most of their shows in Nashville and Murfreesboro. Donny would borrow my amp occasionally for his stereo rig if one of his was in the shop and I also did a recording session with Denny shortly after the band moved to Nashville. They're all really great guys. On a side note, you may remember the WRVU deejay Adam Dread. He was, and continues to be, a HUGE fan of Webb's. Believe it or not, he's a Nashville city councilman now. See if you can encourage him to tour again and come up here. I love the sense of humor in his song writing. I get tired of artists who take themselves too seriously.
