musicalhair
Yes, I played a cafe called the ABC Cafe with a bunch of politically oriented/activist bands and artists in support of a coalition of groups called "Bush Must Go" http://www.bushmustgo.net/ http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=009292#000000 That should be the thread where I mentioned it earlier. http://www.theabccafe.com/ It is a hippie place. We had a good time, a few local artists performed one guy on cello plugged into a distortion (used occassionally) through an old Fender Deluxe Reverb was really good. Daddy played the best set I ever heard from them. www.daddywantsyou.com check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. Werewolf by Night
Damn, I wish I'd known; I probably could've made it! I live only about 40-45 minutes drive from there (obeying the speed-limits)! I love Ithaca! My main guitar for eleven years was an Ithaca Guitar Works Strat-stylee. My two Les Pauls were purchased at Rumble Seat Music there in town. Various people I know have played the ABC Cafe. Did you happen to bump into a drummer from around here named Ernie? If you ever plan on being thereabouts again, lemmee know; we'll have to have some beer 'n' pizza at The Nines 'n' jam a little, if possible! Lee Flier
Ithaca RuLeZ!! And hey musicalhair, while I'm thinking about it - what is the inspiration behind your handle? Is your hair actually musical? Can you pull out strands of it and use them as guitar strings? What's the deal?
Werewolf by Night
Lee- please expound upon your familiarity with Ithaca? musicalhair
Hey Lee, behind the name is ... NOTHING! Really, I when I first got on the internet and I wanted to register for musician type forums like this I saw noone else used their names so I tried making up a name but they all got shot down. I tried choosing things about my lefty guitar playing but I couldn't think of anything that didn't get bounced back with like four numbers after it as a suggested alternative name. Like if I said "lefty" I'd get back "how about 22_lefty_645y89". I figured if I tried something that made no sense it would pass. For better or worse musicalhair worked. My hair is not musical, rather thin, short, light brown, and I'm actually getting a couple of grey ones sneaking in. No music though-- not yet anyway. When it came back that I had actually chosen musicalhair my first reaction was "great, now look at what you done." I wish I spent more time in Ithica, I wrote some stuff about the tour at my blog in my sig below. Hey Caevan The only band that had a drummer that night was Daddy and they brought their own so to speak. I really only met the waitress, a freelance journalist covering the "event", some of the Bush Must Go people, and a really beautiful college student who lives above the cafe. I was leaning on the wall outside early on as one of the bush must go people was talking and I accidently leaned into her door bell. I thought I could pretend I didn't do nothing until she came down to see "who's there", and I quickly 'fessed up and apologized. I heard about all the water falls and stuff, but man I got eaten alive by the mosquitos which the locals said were particularly bad that night. It was really hot and humid. I have a story about leaving the place that night that I put on someone else's blog and I'll go and put it up on mine if people want to read it. It was simply about that I wanted to go home and practice my guitar after the show and the two "kids" I drove to the club wanted to party at a frat or sorority. We played Ithaca because one of the peace activist musicians named Catherine Moon went to school their so she booked it. I think she is just an amazing singer-songwriter, but Daddy was beyond amazing that night. Since we're all musicians here and I hate the phoney sales-man half truths we all have to speak about our performances and stuff to non-musicians, I'll be honest and say we didn't play very well that night. The best performances were from Arlene's Grocery, Buffalo (which didn't get recorded in any fasion) and The Saint. The two we have recorded we have on video and CD. I'll get around to mixing down and putting up versions of tunes we did. I've got to run! I'm picking up the "big" fender acoustic guitar amp, because as we all know as soon as I do I'll get some gigs playing electric guitar with a heavy metal band. As soon as I traded away my fretless I got calls for fretless playing. As soon as I got a new SG I got acoustic gigs. check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. musicalhair
Hey Spiral Light, I thought the ABC was pretty cool. The old piano was actually in tune, and the food was really good. Also, the had a Birch Beer by a company called Journey. I used to get their sodas a long time ago but haven't been able to find them in years. When I saw it on the menu under beverages I was surprised (I guess I'd be more surprised if I saw it under Pesce or Carne), the Journey "Borealis Birch Beer" is a great soda. check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. musicalhair
I didn't like their cola, and I liked some of their root beers better than others-- but once I got used them I liked them all, their root beers that is. They really make good stuff. check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion.
