Hey gang, I'm playing the Saint in Asbury Park, NJ tomorrow night (Thursday) at like 1:30. Some really great acts will also be playing-- one of my favorites: Catherine Moon, you've got to hear her sing.

Anyway we're all playing Ithica, NY Friday night at the ABC Cafe

then NY NY on Monday night at Arlene's Grocery,

then

on Friday Sept 3 in Pittsburg PA at The Quiet Storm Cafe

The gigs are like rabble rousing and supporting or in conjunction with like local peace and justice type organizations.

and ending up in

Buffalo Sunday Sept 5, at Broadway Joe's.

Wish me luck, and what ever it takes to hear the chord changes in the monitors and remember the set list :D .

We're not big enough for Safeway. Arlene's is a club, I've never played it before as they don't pay their bands even a cut of the door-- unless that changed. They had a reputation that A&R guys hung out their. I don't buy it. As soon as they got that reputation, coupled with the fact that they don't pay bands, I bet that changed what bands they get. My favorite club in NYC is still Kenny's Castaways.

Last night's show at the Saint in Asbury Park was very cool. Catherine Moon was excellent, we (The New {Patriots) played pretty well and the crowd really dug the whole act. Daddy, and Stephan Smith really kicked ass too.

I'm taking off for Ithica now. Wish me luck, not just with the show but with the menu at the ABC Cafe.

Later!

I listened back to the disks of the Saint show and a guy called Spook Handy really played well and he's got some great songs. Catherine Moon was her usual amazing, and I'm pretty pleased with the "New Patriots" I thought we came off pretty well. When I get the time I'll see if we can post some mp3's somewhere.

Ithica apparently is a very beautiful city with all these waterfalls and stuff but I'll have go return with the wife and kids to enjoy it.

The show was pretty cool, the place had great food and they compped the musicians a meal and a drink (like most decent places do, but I used to do sound in a place that served mexican food and I saw the bands eating Chinese food, so I don't know what was up with that, they fed me off their menu-- and it was really great food).

I have to say that although the place emptied out before closing, Daddy kicked serious ass. The tunes were dead on, the harmonies were dead on, and the performance was dead on. The locals that remained were really blown away and I really believe many of them will be checking out Daddy's show tonight also in Ithica. But not us, we're just gearing up for Arlene's grocery.

There was a local musician I think his name is David Roberts, cellist and singer. He played the cello through a Fender blackface Deluxe Reverb-- I didn't get the year-- and had a distortion or overdrive pedal. He definately was copping some Hendrix riffs on Cello! He had a cool set.

But, Daddy owned the night. Catherine Moon again put on a great show, but Daddy really rose to the occassion. The were the only ones to even check to see if the beat up old piano in the corner was in tune, and it was dead on in tune-- up and down the keyboard which shocked me. They used it in stead of a keyboard and I think the tunes benefitted from it. I can't say it enough, Daddy kicked ass.

And yeah, I'd rather talk about small time or local acts slugging it out in the trenches than famous people. It just means a lot more to me to see a great performance in a small place than in a big place, just like I like playing on the floor than on a stage, or a low stage instead of a high stage. A high stage is cool, and it is neat to see back into the audience and everything but there is something to the small intimate setting that is really sweet.

Yes I got nerve, I'm bumping this up again! :thu:

Arlene's Grocery has pretty nice sound. I've never played it as it used to have the reputation of not even giving the bands a cut of the door but I spoke to a drummer I know that came out to check us out and he said they got a cut of the door when they played there recently.

It is like divided into parts the bar which works great as a lounge before going on as they have a passageway (my old sailor vocabulary) in the back that leads from this room to the stage. Then the room where the stage in also has a bar and the enterances in the front are like connected, and the bathrooms are down stairs.

Anyway the sound was good, the crowd dug it and it was a lot of fun. I think we played well and Catherine Moon again just sang her ass off. Darren Kramer also performed and he was really good. He wears taps on his shoes and has a plywood board that he stomps his feet on while he is playing, like four on the floor-- literally. He actually changes his shoes for this. They miced the plywood board. It was really cool actually.
