BiC
My laptop was in such bad shape that it would not even boot up any longer. I kept getting the following error: Data Error reading drive C Abort? Retry? Ignore? Fail? At other times, I would get some other funky error. Anyays, I "sacrificed" the info. on my hard drive and restored to factory condition. I couldn't even back-up my hard drive before I restored it. I kept receiving errors on that as well. But, NOW everything is just fine... besides my pointer freezing from time to time as usual. BUT guess what? My CDROM is now working! A String
Sometimes all the best efforts in the world won't save a computer when it's decided it's time to die. I reformat mine every few months anyway just to keep it clean and smooth. Glad to hear you got it up and running well and that there was no problem with your CD drive! BiC
Well A String, it looks like I spoke too soon about the CDROM. It "disappeared" on me last night. This morning it "appeared" at start-up. Then as I proceeded to load Microsoft Office, it disappeared again while trying to finish loading with a second CD. It seems to be appearing and disappearing as it pleases. I guess I just have to keep on checking to see if it appears so I can finish installing MO. A String
Did I already ask you about your system clock? Sometimes the battery on the motherboard can be running out of juice and that can cause similar problems...the indicator of this would be the clock would keep losing the time. But, my clock seems to be on time. I'd love to buy a new laptop now, but we'll be moving in Jan with a new home purchase before then. So, needless to say I'll be milking this piece of junk until that's all settled... if it survives!
