Speed building book recommendation for intermediate guitarist?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

A kid I know (age 19) who's been playing guitar for about 6 years is interested in some exercises for building fretboard speed. He's more into Albert Lee kinda speed than Yngvie kinda speed. He seems to know his chords and rhythm stuff quite well and has a pretty solid foundation, but would just like to learn some more scales and techniques for playing leads faster. Anybody got a book recommendation for him?

I heard really good things about

Sheets of Sound

Several players I've known on-line at the HC Forum, have given this high marks and shown improvement in their own playing.

It's on my personal "to buy" list, but I haven't become an owner yet.

Maybe this would be a good option for your friend...

But if YOU become a "shredder" Lee... I'll think you're spoofing us.

Aren't there a bunch of Albert Lee, Danny Gatton, Robin Ford, and such-like lesson video 'n' book sets out there? I can't recall who marketed those, but I remember they had quite a stable of cool, tasteful cats in their roster...
