sg
Hey folks, I'm new to this bb so forgive me in advance if I rattle on or post out of form. I'm having a bit of a problem getting my rig where I want it to be; hopefully someone here can lend a hand. My current set up is: Guitar-->BoossDLy-->VoxWah-->TSL100...[Rocktron Prophecy<-->TSL100FXloop]-->Mesa 4x12 (driven by an abacus midi controller and marshall 5-way switch). In order to allow a single 'stomp' for switching from wet FX to straight marshall heaven, I have the master FX volume down on my OD channels and the master FX volume up on the clean channel -this way I'm not 'tap dancing' or boosting the OD channel by dropping the rocktron between the OD pre and pwr sections. The trouble with this is that I'm dropping the Prophecy in between the pre and pwr sections of the clean channel thereby loosing some of the richness of the FX as well as robbing myself of the TSL's smooth clean channel (I have to boost the gain in order to get the necessary levels out of the rocktron thereby destroying any true clean tone). So why not get rid of the Rocktron? Honestly, I would love to, however there's a feature on there called ADSR(attack/decay/sustain/release) which uses RT's 'pluck detection' to alter the dynamics of a given parameter. As far as I know, only rocktron offers this feature; and only in the prophecy. The other issue, of course, is $$. Reaplacing the prophecy w/ a bunch of stomp boxes and the necessary switching gear to keep the tap dancing minimal will run over $2k -give or take. I took a look at amp switchers like the radial Headbone VT -where I would run the prophecy into my Mesa 50/50 and hop back and forth from the TSL, but this is a problem as the prophecy will be sitting behind the headbone and running a delay in most cases (so a residual signal will still be placed on the 50/50 after switching over -spelling trouble for the amp and switch). And so there it is; I'm looking for multiFX, massive all-tube tone, and one touch switching without dropping $2k+ on an RS-10 or hauling a second cab to my gigs. It appears that I can pull this off with a CAE Amp Selector v.1, but that thing runs for $895.00. Any ideas? Many thanks -sg illuminati music
musicalhair
Honestly man, as I read your post I don't really know what your looking to do. Carl Martin makes a thing called the Combinator II that might work with both stomp boxes and amp effect's loops that might allow you to keep tap dancing down to a bare minimum but as for your levels with the various set ups you might be able to set up another boost pedal or a volume pedal that kicks in along with what ever you kick in via the combinator. In any event the combinator can assist in complicated set ups where one stomp equals like up to 8 stomps. I can't seem to keep all my stuff at predicatable levels so I just use a volume pedal and only stomp when I then have a chance to tweak my volume via the pedal. Not the right way at all but for me I just find one set of gain or volume settings in one situation doesn't translate to the next situation. Riding the volume pedal is the only way I can get whatever combination of pedals I 'm using to be where it needs to be. check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. sg
Thanks musicalhair. I'm not really worried about the stomp boxes that I already have in there -they're kind of irrelevant to be honest. It's a matter of getting in and out of the rocktron easily without compromising its tonal characteristics. It's definitely not an easy problem to solve without dropping mad cash or hauling an extra cab. I've been meaning to drop a volume pedal in there -now I have more incentive. -sg illuminati music
