Werewolf by Night
(One of the many audition requirements for the Air Force Band guitar-chair:) Country: * "Rocky Top", any recorded version; perform an improvised solo on electric guitar, play rhythm on acoustic guitar (not at the same time!)Whew, I was worried there for a minute! Seriously, if you check out this \'page (courtesy of FunkJazz) listing their audition requirements, you'll see that it's a pretty exclusive gig! I'd bet that there's nobody on these forums who could walk in right now and do it cold! At least some review and preparation would be neccessary for anybody! I'd even bet that there's very few of us who could pull it off with an intensive solid week of prepping! Tedster
My point exactly, Caveman. They don't get slouches to fill those chairs. Those bands are PR for getting people into the Armed Forces...and they want to put their best foot forward. ON YOUR FACE AND GIVE ME 50 CHROMATIC SCALES, MAGGOT!!! Sauce
yeah, almost all the music teachers i've had over the years, in school, private teachers, etc. have all said that getting a gig with the armed forces (hah, if you can do it) is one of the only decent, steady paying ones for musicians these days. Then you'll never hear surf music again...

From the Air Force Band 'page: * Chromatic scales: Perform a chromatic scale through a minimum of two octaves from any given note. At least they don't also require 'any specified finger' to begin with, to! I think that recruiting PR is the smallest part of their roster, to be honest with you! PR in the sense of making the sharpest impression at any gig; but they do a lot more than PR shows. A lot of what you might call "in house" entertainment gigs, and "function" jobs (like ceremonies, etc.), too.
