Welcome to the forum.

Are you looking for an amp, or something to use as monitors in a computer/recording situation?

If you are looking for an amp, I'd suggest getting something that is as clean and un-coloured as possible (you want your POD doing all that work). Cosmo just got a Roland Cube (I think it was...) for a very similar situation, and (whichever amp it is -- sorry, my memory isn't what it once was  ) he seems to be very happy with it.

Cosmo! Any words of advice?

You also might want to consider a keyboard amp of some kind.

May all your thoughts be random!

Thanks NM. I am really looking for feedback from folks who use powered monitors like KRK, Fostex, etc. in a home studio setup. Don't really need earblasting levels, so under 500-600 bucks probably will do. I did try some M-Audio monitors a year ago, when I had a J-Station setup. It sounded harsh. Could not say if it was the J or the monitors. I can make the amp modelers sound acceptable thru headphones. I do play a Fender DRRI, but I do like the many flavors of the PodXT. Thanks guys.

Hey, tell me all about your observations on the pros 'n' cons of the J-Station vs the Pod XT, willya, EmenEmeril? (I have a J-Station, myself; earliest edition, never even upgraded!)

By the way, cool tag there! Too funny! Any relation to Auntie Em 'n' Dorothy?

"BAM! I'm takin' it up

He's my Road-Dawg!

But, hey, don'tcha know

Fallin' hard tryin' t' stop me, but I jus' don't care...

But, hey, then again

I gotta move on ovah fa my Auntie Em! Give it up, ya!" :D

O.K., now that I've got that out of my system, like a fine vintage Ripple or Night-Train...

http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/icons/icon2.gif Clonk on this pic http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/icons/icon2.gif http://www.carvin.com/images/thumb/SRS65A.jpg for a direct link to Carvin's 'page on a nice-price powered monitor, the SRS65A - SRS6.5A Active Powered Monitor, $219.99 apiece (direct) as I type this. Built-in 100w RMS amp (70w low, 30w high).

A couple of nice points:

"Completely shielded for use near computer monitors."

"...a simple switch on the front panel...gives you, in essence, a second pair of speakers. In the "Flat" position, the SRS is a near-field monitors for tracking and mixing down with pinpoint accuracy. In the "Contour" position, you suddenly have the ability to hear what your material sounds like on your stereo HiFi speakers without having to buy another pair of speakers (as most studios end up doing)."

Sounds like they could get some double-duty usefulness for ya there; and you can get a pair for under your stated budget limit!

For 'phones, I use a pair of AKG K-55s with my J-Station or an amp feeding my GT Electronics Speaker Emulator; they have a nice inherent bass-emphasis (by design) that makes them very enjoyable for guitar and bass duties. Fairly cheap, too!

Thanks for the reply C.O.S. - is that a one hitter in your avatar. LOL. Just kidding, haven't done that in years. As far the J vs PodXT, they both are cool. I must say that the Pod does more for me. Clearer cleans and more emulations of good clean and bluesy amps. The high gains are cool on both, but it all is a matter of taste. I think now that the price droppped, you should check one out. I play a DRRI, but for home use, it's not always cool with kids/wife/neighbors. More on that subject, but gotta run.....

I will add one thing COS, you need to at least upgrade your J, it adds a cool Bassman model. Can't remember what else. Defitely thought the added Marshall JCM 800 was a waste of time. I always think of Michael Schenker when I hear about the 800. I see George VW is on this board from L6 So what your excuse for the JCM 800 not sounding like Michael, huh, huh. Just joking. The Spinal Puppet gets you into many arena's of Schenker, Iron Maiden, Accept, etc. I also am on PodXT's 1.02 ver and the Fender Deluxe+TS808 is Alex Lifeson early 70's in a box. I shit you not. Don't know what mistake was made, but I dare not upgrade again. Go ahead a laugh. I have a JT-45 patch that is perfect for clean Jeff Beck and then a rip a gainy Beck with a Fender 5E3 Tweed+TS-808. Led Boots here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, waddya think of the Carvin suggestion?

By the way- no, it's not a "one-hitter", although you're not the first to think that. It's a painted sculpture, NW Native-American style.
