dave251
This fanned fret 7 was built for Ken Nieves, who tours with the US Navy Big Band, stationed in New Orleans. It was good to hear back from him after a year's worth of playing on the guitar. I believe this photo is from the recent Satchmo Festival in the Big Easy. Here he is onstage with the "small combo" that is a part of the main orchestra. http://www.electrocoustic.com/newimage/nieves02.jpg Dave Wendler Instruments

Billster
I played a Novax fan fret 8 string once, and was amazed at how natural it felt. Great product placement And it speaks to the instrument holding up to the rigors of the road. Buy my CD on CD Baby! Bill Hartzell - the website MySpace?!?! This 7 string uses a custom hand wound design that Kent and I figured out works the best for my application. The pickups in the avatar photo are off the shelf KA designs.... All are mini humbuckers; the neck pups utilize TWO alnico mags acting as blades in the coils. The bridge buckers are more traditional, ie, a single larger alnico magnet under the coils, with blade polepieces. Epoxy is used to pot the coils, making them VERY stable. My "MagPi" system includes a pretty standard piezo disc, that I have modified, buried in the quartersawn maple bridge about 1/4" above the body. This passive setup allows an interaction between the piezo and the mag; the heavy inductance of the mag offsets the screwy phase/attack transient response of the piezo, while the high capacitance of the piezo helps to correct the "electric" tonality of the magnetic. A win/win situation, in addition to allowing direct connection to your amp without the use of an active "buffering" preamp. Her dad, Billy, has been a mainstay in Lawrence for as long as I can remember...and of course Carol sang with him for years...anyway, she turns 50 this year, and there will be at least a couple dozen of the local old timer musicians at Liberty Hall(the Red Dog, Lawrence Opera House, etc) on Saturday night to bring it home to her. Should be great fun with lots of wonderful musicianship. Anyway, consider yourself invited. I think they're charging a nominal fee at the door to help cover the rental on the old opera house.... Tedster
Well, that'd be swell, Dave. I have sort of a gig then, though. (shrug)... "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
