dohhhhh6
I'm sure this has been done before (this one's always been done a million times), but I can't seem to find it using the search feature. I'm starting up a side project with a really awesome guitarist (we're both high school freshman, BTW). Problem is he has a cheap, small, Rogue amp. I told him right off the bat, "that ain't gonna do in a band, bro." Being the awesome guitarist that he is, he tells me he'll look into getting a new amp. Next problem? He doesn't know what. I'm planning on goin' out to Guitar Center with him and trying out all amps, but in case he needs to order online (and to make sure he looks at certain amps), what are some good suggestions? He's willin' to spend about $300. He wants something that has a great clean sound and atleast a decent distortion. Also, I'm wondering, what is a basic guitar combo suited for a band setting like? I used to think a 1x12 with about 50 watts was mandatory for a good clean, but I'm just bassist. If you could point me in the direction of some good threads that answer these questions, please do. Thank you all for the help. Da LadY In Skynyrd We Trust
Cowbell
For $300, you can get an EXCELLENT MusicMan amp. My bro bought his for exact 3 bills, maybe 3 years ago. Amazing sounds. His is a 50w 12" combo. Killer cleans and nice overdriven sound. It is really, really cool.Cool enough that Clapton used them for awhile. There are some really good Vibrolux versions on eBay as well. I might suggest a few more later. But MusicMan is huge bang for the buck.
BlueZet
check ebay for a decent tube amp, something like Fender Blues Junior should be available for that price - due to recent cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been SWITCHED OFF
Dennyf
Roland BC-30 Blues Cube. $199 at MF. Not to be confused with their newer Cube 30, which may be alright, I dunno. But the Blues Cube is a very basic, but toneful two-channel amp with one 12" speaker. Plenty loud even at jams with four guitar players and a couple harp players on stage. Clean channel sounds nice & warm, distortion channel sounds pretty nice too. I use the dist channel all the time, cleans up nicely with reduction in guitar volume. I've experimented with pedals in front of the clean channel, it likes Tube Screamers and my Jeckyl & Hyde. band link: bluepearlband.com music, lessons, gig schedules at dennyf.com STURGEON'S LAW --98% of everything is bullshit. Green657
I think Fender Princetons are going for around $299 nowadays. If you dont want the bells and whistles the Fender FM-65 goes for $249 and the FM-212 runs around $299 FM-65 FM-212 Princeton
Big Red 67
The pro Junior from fender is the amp I use. It is tube 15watts loud enough to keep up with all but the loudest drummers. I pluged in and thought, "That's how they get that sound." It has alowed me to become a better guitarist. I just mic it in the bigger venues. Gifthorse
By all means look into Peavey. Maybe a Classic 30 combo or something. Or get a Classic 50 used or something. KILLER tone and KILLER price. http://flagshipmile.dmusic.com/ http://www.myspace.com/gifthorse
