~Joni Mitchell's BLUE album~

DIAMOND DUST

Any fans of this little masterpiece? She just floors me with her voice, and the chords she plays on this album. I have been listening to alot of female artists lately and she is tops in my book. She really seems to know alot about how music works, and how it should be played. Dare I say genius? Listen to the "Blue" album, "Court and spark", "Hejira" with freakin' JACO, and "Don Juan's reckless daughter" with Carlton. I belive she's a musical treasure. :):)

I love Joni and Blue is one of my favorite albums. I still listen to it frequently... I agree that there is something to be said for her natural feel for music... her tone and mood are so pure and can go from one end of the spectrum to the other with a flow that keeps the change from being jarring. She is way up there on my list of favs.

I absolutely cannot stand her voice. Sorry. I wish I could, she is so worshipped. Any time I have trouble understand a lyric due to a voice, I don't like it. But from what I've read, she's very talented. Just not for me due to her voice. I guess she has a song or two I can tolerate.

wow i've never heard that before, you're totally entittled to your opinion. I personally am in awe of notes she can hit. I've always thought that as a vocallist I would excell quite a bit if I could even venture into her range. Her voice is more instrumental than typical and I've probably missed a lyric or two, which usually ticks me off but I get into the flow of it so much that it doesn't really bother me. I just go lalalla uh laaaa when singing along through those bits. :D

You forgot "For the Roses"(with Tom Scott AND Jaco) and "The Hissing of Summer Lawns"(with Larry Carlton, Wilton Felder, Joe Sample, Skunk Baxter, and Robben Ford). What a great writer. And I am sorry to anyone who disagrees, but what a great voice!

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Duh, I probably shouldn't post, since I'm not familiar with this album.

But I like Joni. In fact, I like a lot of female artists. k. d. lang. Holly Cole. Susannah McCorkle. Annie Haslem. Etc. Etc.

I know, I'm sexist for thinking so, but guys tend to turn their music into atheletic events. The girls, not burdened with this drive to impress with technique alone can turn out some quirky, original music that is 'way more involving to listen to.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Yeah, Joni is cool. I only have one album "Miles of Aisles" (Live with Robben Ford) I saw a movie once with her, Jaco & Pat Metheny. I stood in front of the TV with my jaw on the floor. That's how good Jaco was back then before the heroin

Denny F is right on with his comments. The Joni movie was an ego-free episode.

One of the best. For my tastes, she peaked at "Hejira", but all of the earlier stuff still gets the occasional play here.

If you like that style, Judy Collins "Who Knows Where The Time Goes", with Steve Stills Waddy Wactel, and a bunch of other recognizable names from the time (1968? 69?)is also a classic in that style. (And you'll get to hear an earlier version of "Hello, Hooray", later made popular by Alice Cooper...)

I am 35 years old,and I like a huge variety of music from heavy metal to opera.

I've always heard of her, know what she looks like, but never really knew her music.

I just downloaded a couple of songs out of curiosity and.......

Joni? Or Judy?

In the case of Joni: Well, she has a large catalog. If you do not like introspective songs, you'll not like much of it. If "Woodstock" does not appeal to you, then maybe nothing of hers will. Although her later forays into jazz-y pop got her a different audience than me.

If you are talking about Judy, though she has individual songs that are appealing, the vast majority of her work does not touch me. But "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" is an unappreciated classic in the genre.
