fantasticsound
Hey man, just saw your comments about the Yamaha and Godin string-through body design and your avatar. Tell me about your Yami, please. I went to get strings at Sam Ash last night and they had three Yami's near identical to yours. One was the same color, the other two were deep red and deep blue, respectively. Also flame top. WOW! They are beautiful. I love the recessed, metal knobs. Very classy and smooth movement. But frankly, I was underwhelmed with the sound/playability. So tell me what you think of yours and why. I think new strings and a proper setup (I know several top pro's in town, so setup will be great.) might fix it (the blue one) up. Also, I'm toying with purchasing it and replacing the p'ups with P-94's or the equivalent Seymour Duncan. (Are they called Fat Cats? ) Anyway, all comments are appreciated. Thanks, in advance. MadStrum
I played my friend's AES 620 and thought it sounded pretty good. Think it's a good axe for the price. Pier. * Godin Freeway Classic * Seagull M6 * Timothy S10J
Guitarzan
well when i got the aes it came with 9's and man it sounded good. i was less impressed when i tweaked it and put on 10's. this puppy does the rock thing very well and even jazz if you lighten up on the attack. but i do believe its natural sound is hard rock and blues. you can get various other tones from it but it is a dual humbucker axe and super sweet cleans are best played on a single coil axe IMHO. the build quality is super. and it is drop dead beautiful. i have some playability issues because of the size of the neck and the short time i have had to get used to it. did you see the link i suggested to Fogman from yamaha? (Chris Poland of OHM and Megadeth demos the guitar in a video). i have had my pots replaced and i wonder if that has to do with the difference in tone i am having. the originals were scratchy (bad batch from supplier) so yamaha replaced them with different ones. i should check the solder joints for any issues. but i will say , when i first got it it was very impressive. it still sounds good but there is something missing to me. could be the extra oomph from the heavier strings. i prefer my guitars to real clean sounding and get my crunch from the amp. i don't like having too hot a pickup. thats probably my problem. some guitars sound fine with 9's and heavier guages are not always better. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
fantasticsound
Thanks for the comments. I'd really love to pick one up and replace the HB in the neck position (if not both positions) with a P-94/Fat Cat, P-90 type pickup. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Guitarzan
you know i have been playing the yamaha the last 2 days and getting into it a little more. it is FAT for sure. i do like it, i am just more used to a clearer tone like a bolt on gives you. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
