Reverse the Curse
This comin up saturday they are playin at a local theater. Probably the smallest place they have ever played since they made it. Kinda sad for them , but that rocks for me The forumite formerly known as Cooper. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." Tedster
I'd rather see a legendary band (who's not still huge) PACK a small venue than half-fill a larger one. I've seen that...and that is indeed sad. But, in either case, you figure the people that are there really wanted to be there, and it's cool. Werewolf by Night
That should be a cool show! They'll have to focus on their songs, and less on the stagecraft they used so much at the height of their arena days. They do have some great songs, too- some of my favorites are "Nosferatu", "Astronomy Domine", "Black Blade" (a nod to "Stormbringer" from Michael Moorcock's Elric saga, if ever there was one), "Monsters", and, of course, "Don't Fear the Reaper". I believe that "Buck Darmha" was imagining a gypsy violin solo when he came up with that incredible guitar solo in "'Reaper"! Tell me it doesn't sound like it! Shoes
I saw them on the Black and Blue tour about 25 years ago and they stole the show from Sabbath. The energy was very intense and Iran had just taken over the US embassy so the people got whipped up by a huge banner with "Fuck Iran" on it. That and some deranged murderous idiot stalking black taxi cab drivers and cutting their hearts out all made for a very scary night in Buffalo. They're a great and band I'd love to be there with ya to see them play again in a much calmer setting. Enjoy yourself! I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder. antimatter
Don't feel sad for those guys! They love what they do. And I'm sure they'd smoke 99% of bands playing live today. I first saw them with Foghat, probably the tour after the Sabbath tour Shoes' saw. I probably saw them 10 times after that. They always put 110% into the show, no matter whether they played to 15,000 or 150.
Shoes
We were sittin' with Timmy Leary (figuratively) and when they played Godzilla and broke into a 20 minute drum solo complete with giant screen (technology of the day type) and the drummer coming up out of a haze of smoke and light with a Godzilla head on we were impressed. Burning out onto the stage on a Harley, that song where they all grab guitars and line up across the stage... all too much for my altered mind I can recall. Ya.. the cowbell thing that's a Saturday Night Live joke... but then the current cast likely didn't go to concerts when they were GREAT and have no idea in general. IMO I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.
kylen
I was just listenin to '7 screamin diz busters' yesterday - Buck can scallop a fretboard with his bare fingers. Werewolf by Night
DAMN!! skipclone 1
Some friends of mine were BOC maniacs-I went to see em three or four times and my only complaint was when they decided to test a new sound system with OUR ears-I had ringing for three days. Still, what excellent shows and `Agents of Fortune` KILLS-totally love the riff on E.T.I. and I still sing `Stairway to the Stars` to myself on occasion. cosmo115
If I recall correctly, when they were big touring with Sabbath etc. they used to play in small little clubs under the name Soft White Underbelly. Does anyone remember this or am I thinking of another band?
Darklava
Two weeks ago I got 4 free tickets for B.o.c with April Wine.I turned them on to the drummer because B.O.C was his fave.He was very disappointed in B.O.C,he said one of the singers lost his voice, and there was trouble with the sound. He also said April Wine blew them off the stage.Hope you have a better time The story of life is quicker then the blink of an eye, the story of love is hello, goodbye. timrocker
Bring your earplugs, man. I've seen BOC numerous times, and you'll thank yourself afterwards if you've got a good set of foam plugs in there saving your hearing from certain death. I saw them a few months ago here in Portland, OR and tecked for the opening act. Which basically means that I set up amps for a good friend and kept his guitars in tune while the band he's in warmed up for BOC. Yeah, it was a HUGE thrill! I had a two minute conversation with Buck Dharma (Donald Roeser) after the show. Consider me a die hard fan for life!

The Underbelly was based in the town of St. James on Long Island and was the unofficial house band of S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook. They did everything from open shows for the Incredible String Band and the Grateful Dead to play at dorm "moods" (60's-speak for a dance). Take it from one who was there, Don Roeser was ALWAYS an extremely gifted guitarist. I spent many an evening having struck out at a "mood", but not really minding because I was ten feet away from Don and mesmerized. Having seen BOC a couple of years ago the boys can still play. More bad news, the opening band SUCKED. Class Clown or watever All their songs sounded the same The forumite formerly known as Cooper. Super 8
Man, I always loved that song; "Burning For You". Just the feel of the song, the imagery in the lyrics...the whole thing was really cool. Very DARK band. A little too dark for me during my teen years. That middle 8 on "Don't Fear the Reaper" always reminded of a decent into hell. Still, it's a REALLY cool song. I've missed two opportunities to see them. When I was fifteen, they were on tour with Foghat, and maybe Sabbath...I'm not sure. Anyway, a friend somehow aquired tickets and didn't want them. I thought about buying them, but instead I turned them down. A few years ago they were playing at a music festival here within walking distance of my house! I thought about checking them out, but I figured they had been around so long that it probably wasn't even the same band anymore. Ya know? Like maybe one of the roadies on guitar, and he managed to get the drummer out of the Betty Ford Center....and then just hire a bunch of musicians to play along, and call it B.O.C. Ya know? "Hey man, we're gitten the BAND back together! It'll be just like the old times, man!" Literally, I walked passed the stage while they were playing "Godzilla" on my way home. I regret it now though, 'cause I think they're a good band. I think they have managed to retain all their members too, haven't they? Bummer for me... Shoes
These guys ARE great live and they put on a hell of a show spirited by their high energy rock. The stuff from Cultasaurus Erectus drives in high gear... Black Blade, Hungry Boys & Lips in the Hills are pure energy Glad you had a terrific time I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder. GeorgeVW
Yeah, BOC is still kickin'. I've seen them probably 4 times in the last couple of years at several venues around L.A. (they use our gear, and I've gotten to know the guys a little). Don's still got it, and every time I've seen them, I'm reminded of how many really great songs they have in their catalog. "Cities on Flame..." is one of the all-time great guitar riffs, and they always play "Teen Archer" as a request for me.
