Reverse the Curse
i think theres a birth control pill that helps But in all seriousness, there isn't much one can do for a serious case of acne other than see the experts. Werewolf by Night
That's too bad; anything that you can do to help him out in his confidence and attitude and all will help at least as much as anything that'll directly treat the acne. If he's that overwhelmed by it now, even if it clears up some he'll still feel self-conscious... My Mom had serious surgery that's saved her life in general and stopped some bad pain and other symptoms, but the side of her face has been left looking similar to that of many stroke victims. It was harder for her to overcome that than the life-threatening, gigantic tumor that was removed! Let him know that he's not alone in this sort of thing, and that it really could be much worse! There's always some poor soul somewhere that's got a worse lot in life... And that's not to smarmily say that he doesn't have it bad, just an attempt to help give a little perspective. zeronyne
Is he on Cortisone or some sort of derivative yet? Or you could try (I'm not kidding) that product that Britney Spears and Vanessa Williams are touting on TV. I've heard independently that it works great. "For instance" is not proof. BiC
I had very bad cystic acne on my forehead up to my mid 20's, which has left some scarring. I tried all the topical creams, and even tetracycline, but none of that seemed to help. Finally my doctor prescribed accutane to me. I was taking that for a few months. That did the trick! I have not had a single episode since, and that's been about 10 years ago. If your friend simply has "teenage" acne, he should outgrow it. But if it's worse- like what I had- then he should talk to his family's doctor about getting accutane. Acne can give you serious self-esteem problems, making you very reclusive. I wish your friend the best! Jedro
My girlfriend uses ProActiv. It's the same stuff that Vanessa Williams endorses on an infomercial. May cost a little more than your standard over-the-counter type stuff, but if it works, it's probably worth it. Here's a link: http://www.proactiv.com Don't expect your buddy to end up as hot as Vanessa or Britney, though. Everybody knows rock attained perfection in 1974. Tedster
My son's fiance had it bad for awhile. It's a lot better now...but she still has a few flareups. Tell him to take heart...it usually gets better in a bit. Meanwhile, seeing a dermatologist is good... "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
Bbach1
So, it's your "friend" that has the acne eh? (Just teasing). Way Way back in high school I dated a very wonderul young lady who suffered from severe acne and it affected her life in a very negative way. Back then, doctors were not much help. I think things have come a long way since then. I think your rythym player should definately take the time to see a specialist. I assume he has health insuranc coverage? Also, he should investigate the wonders of make up. If it won't go away in a hurry, he might cover it up. Jedro, I love your avatar! Tedster
I asked Alisha how she's gotten rid of her acne. She had a serious problem, and her complexion is beautiful now. She said visiting a dermatologist, and using Accutane (I think it was that). She's (Freddy Prinze, Sr. voice) "looking good!" Billster
I remember a home remedy of rubbing raw eggs on the skin. Something about the vitamin A in the yolks. Hello, Discovery Channel, can I speak to the Mythbusters? See a doctor, but look at diet and cleanliness also. A lot of acne is clogged pores. Oily skin does not equal acne. Outrider
This will sound stupid, I know, but it worked for me. I had moderate teenage acne and I pretty much killed it with... Lava soap. The pumice exfoliates the skin and the soap's pretty strong, so it dries the oil out. Scrub lightly at first...you'll get used to it after a week or so. Then use Clearasil to kill the acne bacteria. Sounds stupid. Really helps. Cheaper than medicines & designer exfoliants. Sounds like his real problem is depression, not acne. That is a much more serious issue. If he can't get rid of his acne, he should work on how he reacts to it. You might want to mention to him (or his parents, if they don't know) that counseling might be in order. Dr. Seuss: The Original White Rapper . WWND? RBLA
I took Accutane too. As Bic said it truly is a wonder drug! It was for me. I started to get some scarring and was getting depressed. My skin cleared up dramatically about a month after I started taking it and stayed clear after. I would suggest your friend ask his dermatologist if he is a candidate to take Accutane and also express that he is getting depressed over his acne. Good luck to your friend. BTW, once the acne clears, you no longer have to take Accutane. It's NOT like you have to "stay" on it to keep the acne away.
