dohhhhh6
Hello, I'm gonna go ahead and ask you high esteemed guitarists a question or 2 on behalf of my uncle. My uncle plays. He also has 2 young kids (1 and 3). He wants to buy a decent guitar that looks classic, plays nice, and in a couple of years when he gives it to one of his sons (if they play guitar), they'll say "sweet, that's a wicked classic guitar." He doesn't mind spending a decent penny on it if it'll retain value (1000 bucks tops). I turned him to the direction of a MIM Fender Strat (he would like versatility). He was lookin' a lot at a MIA Strat, though. Which one would be better? Any other guitars that would fit the bill? I would say an Epiphone SG or Les Paul, but those aren't the same as a standard Fender (even if they sound or play better). Also, he's looking at a headphone amp/practice amp. Something small that he could carry around easy. He's not looking for a giggig amp. I pointed out the Pandora, but there are quite a few choices in that range. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help guys. Both of us appreciate it. In Skynyrd We Trust

I know the usual forumites will be very surprised at this response , but if he's looking for a GREAT SS practice amp and depending on his amp budget, I'd HIGHLY recommend the Roland Cube 30 . I have the Cube 15 and absolutely love it! The clean channel is great, the overdrive options are great and it is AMAZINGLY LOUD and powerful. I'd recommend the Cube 15 in a heartbeat, but if $225 isn't too much, the Cube 30 is just like the Cube 15 with some extra bells and whistles and twice the power (not that he'd need it for normal situations). tiger85
Its hard to beat an American made Fender Strat for versatility, value, resell, etc. There are lots of good ones out there including many used ones in prime condition. I just checked out a red one with a rosewood neck and pearloid pickguard that played and sounded great, in great condition, for 600 bucks! The Gibson American made guitars would be more expensive than the Fenders, especially the Les Pauls and SGs. Nice guitars though, I have owned all three at one time or another. I am currently broke and drawing umemployment ( wife works thankfully) so I'm down to one guitar. A Strat! ...touched down in the land of the Delta Blues.....in the middle of the pouring rain.... Dr.Fuzz
If you want an american-made Gibson, it is hard to beat the faded series guitars.. every one I've seen has impressed me. drfuzz "I'm just here to regulate the funkiness"
