cosmo115
I got a message from Sweetwater.com saying that I won $100 in last months sweepstakes. Assuming this is true what should I get without going over $100?? If you didn't know I have a LP, Roland Cube 15 amp and DigiTech RP80. Hopefully there's no catch with the $100. Thanks for your input!

Teahead
You need one of These! http://www.tonefactor.com/images/toxic1.jpg The Love Pedal Toxic is a handbuilt, true bypass overdrive/distortion stomper, selling for $89! Tonefactor are out of stock at the minute, but Sean is making more pedals and they will come fast. Mine only took a week to the UK, including build time. Great value and thick, crushing gain from a pedal. Good luck... Tea. Pedal Clips

madgrinder
I played one of the new MXR Zakk Wylde pedals yesterday, and DAMN!. If you use about half of the amps O/D and add the pedals O/D, it has a sweet sustain with plenty of harmonics... it's like someone supercharged your pickups. Be sure you have a noise gate, though. The noises during rests in the song are bad (pick-at-ready sounds, right hand muting strings can be heard also). All - in - all, a very sweet sound. I like it through my Trace Elliot as well as the JCM. ...it's Mr Stabby, da da da da da daaaah, da da da da da da daaaah...

Actually I already have a Nomad Jukebox 3 that I'm happy with, but thanks for the "suggestion" BTW, what type of "waitress" (wink! wink!) are you referring to? I was skeptical too, but the person that called is the sales guy who sold me my Cube 15. He had called my house and spoke to the boss (aka wife) and he left a message for me at my work, so it seems legit. If you haven't shopped at Sweetwater, you get your own personal sales person who will always deal with you. I was VERY impressed by them and my sales guy. He had musical degrees, experience in music studios and recording etc. Most importantly, I called on a Tuesday and told him I wanted the amp by Friday and I had it on Thursday with free shipping PLUS he gave me a better deal than listed. All that service for a $100 amp! _______________________ Thanks Tea and Madgrinder! Most importantly, Sweetwater doesn't carry either of those and second my amp has four different overdrive and distortion sounds and the RP80 also has some excellent distortion modes. Shoes
I look at free money this way: What do I want but not necessarily need? A set of pro quality cables. A reasonable mic, Shure Beta 56 A box of strings A pro tune-up for one of my ill-cared for guitars. I figure if it dropped from the sky..... I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder. Billster
I've been putting all windfall to the munchkin's college fund, but since this is just for Sweetwater, I like Shoes' suggestion, especially cables. You almost can't have too many cables, especially if you start recording. I spent like $250 on cables at one sitting when I added a second patchbay. The best freebie I ever got was a leftover reel of a couple hundred feet of shielded co-axial cable. I bought a box of 1/4" plugs (another preposterous peripheral expense), sat down with a soldering iron for a week and made all length of cables. I still use them over ten years later - it's probably saved me $500. Buy my CD on CD Baby! Bill Hartzell - the website MySpace?!?!

Bill, I know what you're saying about the college funds, but I don't think the guy will let me cash out. As far as mics, I have no plans on recording that seriously, but if I did I know the ploy to post a thread without getting flamed. As far as cables, since I don't play as often as everyone here, the cables I bought should last me forever. Actually if I looked, I bet I could find one of the cables I was using back in the mid 80s and I'm sure it would work fine for my needs. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_4_102.gif Maybe I'll buy something and sell it for a profit on eBay? Cable and mic - see response above Strings - a box would last me four lifetimes the way I play now. I bought an extra set for DR Pure Blues when I got my set-up and I don't know if I'll ever open them Pro tune-up - I just had the LP set-up, it's my only guitar and I wouldn't ship my baby anywhere even if Sweetwater did that. I was actually toying with getting a 12 string, but Sweetwater's 12 strings are so expensive Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
cosmo115
BTW, even if I wanted to give the $100 gift certificate away, I couldn't. Reason is the way that you get assigned a sales person at Sweetwater means that the sales person is the keeper of the key and I never see the actual gift certificate. I just have to figure out what to do with it.... http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_1_39.gif
Reverse the Curse
i would get lots of acessories (cables, strings, etc), but get some kinds I hadn't tried cause they were expensive. That way, I get to try new things, but I am still fufilling my basic needs. Then all the money that goes into your guitar budget can go straight to savin for some big purchases. Nothin is more annoying than trying to save up for a guitar and you keep having to spend that money on little stuff. Just my 2 cents. The forumite formerly known as Cooper. You might be onto something there Juan, but I just got a set-up and new strings Plus Sweetwater doesn't seem to have a large selection of pickups. It is a good thought though. Thanks!
