Shannon
Just thought this was interesting, an electric guitar designed specifically for bowing. http://bowedguitar.tripod.com/guitarviol2.jpg
NMcGuitar
Cool. A little strange, but cool. I wouldn't have thought there would be enough of a market for something like this (you gotta admit, it is a specialty niche), but I bet it would be a lot of fun to play with it for a while. Have you got any more info on it? May all your thoughts be random! - Neil www.McFaddenArts.com www.MikesGarageRocks.com
Shannon
http://www.bowedguitar.com/ They are awful pricey, but that would be an instrument I'd like to try.... just fer scuz.
J J
hey that's really cool, i'd love to have one of those I've been looking at getting the Ebow for a while now, looks like it would be pretty fun
cosmo115
Personally, I prefer this version: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v324/cosmo115/jimmy_with_bow.jpg It's cheaper too

Caevan O’Shite
A '58 or '59 "sunburst" is cheaper than a Togaman Violectriguitar-thingee?!? Wow, they must be expensive! Shannon- love the new avatar! You could always try an E-bow out; either way is better than getting bow-rosin all over your main guitar and its strings just for a novelty effect! Or... there is my super-secret, personally invented way of "bowing" as many of your strings at once as you want, electric or acoustic, steel, nylon, whatever, with nothing in your hands other than your pick (if you use a pick)... But, I couldn't reveal that... ! Shoes
Well that sounds like my patented screwdriver effect. Ebow... something I've been thinkin of as well. The cat stretching out strings with Bowie (not Slick.. other guy) is pretty freaky with the Ebow. I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder. Caevan O’Shite
Nope, although I too have employed that same screwdriver technique! It doesn't involve any objects actually touching the strings; it does involve an apliance... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/icons/icon3.gif Hey, that Togaman guitar kinda looks like a take on the ol' "map-shaped" style, doesn't it? A String
If you have your guitar set up just right, you can get the exact same sounds using a drum stick. After I saw Jimmi doing it in the Led Zep movie when I was younger, I grabbed the first thing I could find to bow with, a drum stick. Surprisingly, it sounded great even though it made me feel a bit stupid! A few years later, I saw Randy Bachman do the same thing on stage with BTO. I felt a lot less stupid after that. Shannon
lol, why didn't i ever think of that??? But could you imagine using that on stage you could customize it, make it look like a light saber or something

(not that I know what's on the back pages of skin mags, given I can't read very well )Y'mean like Dermatologist's Quarterly? Seriously, nope. Not something that makes noises by being picked-up by the pickups (I guess that's why they call 'em that, huh?), either; the strings are made to vibrate as long as you want, as many or as few as you want, dependant upon your muting and damping technique. I'll have to get around to recording a clip; sounds best when you have a whammy-bar at your disposal, though! Originally posted by Shannon: lol, why didn't i ever think of that??? Shoes
I was going to address this to you and I burst out laughing and couldn't do it! Didn't figure he's have been using this You try it out and let us know what you think. I'd guess if it's made solid like something you'd use for slide guitar it would be kind of snakey sounding! I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.
Shannon
Last night I was feeling funky and was trying some new tricks at making eerie sounds on the guitar, came up with some cool stuff but once i got on a roll i'd mess up and boy did it sound awful when i did... but this morning I had a dream that i mastered it and i was just rocking out to it... i can still barely remember what it sounded like. you gotta love the limitless possibilities in dreams. Caevan O’Shite
O.K., which first? Do you all wanna hear it first- in an mp3 clip, which I'll have to record and get hosted, it'll take a day or two at least- or have me just tell you what the "secret" pseudo-bowing technique is? Caevan O’Shite
Gimmee a few days on this one. Gotta find the time when I can sit down with the guitar (and my hands aren't too tired and sore- a problem, of late), and- I don't think I currently have a usable example of said (non)mystery appliance to get the effect. I will say that it's purely mechanical in nature; at least, the way of "driving" or psuedo-"bowing" the strings is. I just might break out my poor abused old "super-Strat"-stylee axe and take off the pickguard so that I can put a fresh battery in there (for its EMG pickups), just 'cause it has a whammy-bar, and it'll sound much cooler with a few warbles and dips and some delay and 'verb... By the way- once I get a workable mp3 file clip, anybody wanna "host" it for this?
