Lee Flier
If you guys haven't heard the song "Great Big Amp," from the new CD by Wayne Kramer of the MC5, y'all ought to appreciate the sentiment. I got a great big amp, it's got a great big sound I play it really loud, I'll never turn it down I got a great big amp, it only tells the truth And if you listen close you can hear the proof I'm sending out a signal from this hideaway I'm carrying a message in the matinee That sooner or later things'll be all right I won't have to struggle and I won't have to fight I'm busting thru the clamor with a melody Rising in the freedom of the harmony I'm trying to find some justice I'm trying to find some peace I got a hundred watts of power And the power is released In my great big amp The one with all the tone With my great big amp I'll never be alone And with my great big amp I will have it all And I will make my mark I'll be standing tall I'll buy the things I want I'll get the things I need And I won't have to beg And I won't have to plead With my great big amp I will rule the world And I will have the sound And I will win the girl Sooner or later things'll be all right We won't have to struggle And we won't have to fight I'm trying to find a future I'm trying to get a piece I got a hundred watts of power And now the power is released With my great big amp I will liquefy And I will melt away And I will touch the sky I'll be free at last, I will rise above I will know true peace And find eternal love With my great big amp

Mudcat
I haven't heard this song yet. I need to check it out as I've always liked WK's playing going back to the MC5. On a related topic, in my second band in high school the other guitar player (Adam Z.) had a "great big amp" that once belonged to Mr. Kramer himself! It was a Marshall 100 watt bass head. Adam played a hard tail Strat plugged into an Electro-Harmonix Muff Fuzz unit going into the Marshall. As I believe I mentioned in another thread, it was tone Nirvana. Tedster
Ya know...there haven't been enough "odes to the tools of our trade". I mean, if we were singing golfers, we'd be writing tunes about golf clubs. What's even better is that they're inside bits, y'know...non-musicians don't get it. Dennyf
"Pick up your arms was the call So I packed up my Fender and ran down the hall Back to the fields and forests Now I am one of them "Turn on the power" cried the army of sound And the hum of the amps shook the trees and the ground And like a single man we cranked up the knobs And a thousand guitars sang our national anthem We captured the whole human race There was nowhere to hide, playing filled every space Jamming the world back into place Everyone a star We hit the supreme overload And the great amplifier began to explode The smoke is slowly clearing away And the whole universe is a giant guitar" -- The Last of the New Wave Riders, Utopia, Adventures in Utopia band link: bluepearlband.com music, lessons, gig schedules at dennyf.com STURGEON'S LAW --98% of everything is bullshit.
