Blue Strat

Recommended Posts

What are the dimensions of the stock, skirted knobs on a Strat? I'm picking out new knobs for my Rogue, and I've replaced the controls with Alpha pots, which have 1/4" shafts. The new knobs will have set screws instead of being the splined, press on knobs.

Mouser electronics has a huge selection of knobs, from aluminum to plastic to a combination of the two. There's the amp type "chicken head" knobs, skirted knobs, Tele-style knobs, etc. :) I need the height and diameter measurements for the standard Strat knobs to help narrow my search.

Well, if the shaft sticks up too high, just use some flat washers on the concealed side of the pot-shaft as spacers to lower it.

I know I've got a set of standard Strat-styled knobs around here somewhere, never been used- but I can't find 'em!

All of my sources refer only to the "coarse"- (like a Strat's) and "fine"-splined knob designations...

If I can find out the dimensions for ya one way or another, I'll post back...

Just the two major dimensions are all I need, the largest diameter and the height from the top to the bottom of the knob (not from the top of the knob to the top of the pickguard)

Any help you guys can give me would be great, but the worst case senario is a few days wait before I order.

+/- .015 ought to be close enough. :D I still haven't decided if I'm getting barrel knobs or skirted knobs...

replaced them with tele-style knobs about 5 minutes after I got home with the guitar. I have to, I wear out strat-style knobs faster than I can go get new ones at the store...

I like the look of knurled barrel knobs.

Thanks! Mouser has barrel knobs that range from over an inch in diameter down to about 1/2". I think I'm going to go with some 1.0" diameter x 0.600" height knobs. Those should be about the size of the "speed knobs" on a Gibson LP Custom...
