Dave da Dude
I've seen a lot of similar topics lately. Let's decide which one of them is better. Which OD is better? Marshall BluesBreaker BOSS DS-1 BOSS Blues Driver Baby Blue DOD Mystic Blues Other? Vote and then we can ramble on all night. Which is best with tubes? Which is best with solid state? Which is best with low power amps? Which is best with high power amps? Which is best with Beck's? Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need". Mudcat
I must cry foul. The DS-1 is a distortion pedal, not an overdrive. My favorite overdrive pedal is still either a TS-808 or TS-9 Tubescreamer. Guitar Geezer
OK...so I already skewed the poll Danelectro DaddyO 'cause: 1 It was cheap ($25 - my only ebay pourchase so far) 2 and I'm a Danelectro fan PS It really improved the sound of my (Stolen) Princeton 65 SS. Sauce
for best i gotta agree with mudcat on the ts-9. i love mine and it pretty much covers everything i need. although i am a big fan of the expandora also, those things sound great. i'm still debating getting one, just passed up an expandroa 2 on ebay for $73 and that was friggn' hard. i went with the ds-1 on best buy because although it's not an od pedal, to paraphrase sir edmund hilary, "it was there" Then you'll never hear surf music again... BiC
I prefer the Boss Metal Zone. If there is one heavier/chunkier than this, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Dave da Dude
I apologize for putting the DS-1 in there It is indeed a Distortion pedal, but I can't change the poll now I also apologize for the error of my ways in ommitting the TS (and/or 808) series So that leaves BLUESbreaker, BLUESdriver, babyBLUE and mysticBLUES. Does anyone see a trend here? Dave the Blue Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".
Funk Jazz
gotta agree with TubeScreamer nod. i love my voodoolabs sparkledrive, and it's basically a TS-808 circuit with a clean boost added in. FWIW from your list, the Marshall is probably tops. at least it's true bypass, built like a tank, and sounds like a tubescreamer.
NMcGuitar
I recently got the Blues Driver, and I'm absolutely in love with it. I used to have a DS-1 a long time ago, but I gave it to a friend - as I recall, it was a decent distortion pedal, but it didn't really thrill me that much. Does anyone see a trend here? Dave the Blue oops - I voted for the BOSS but I got the DS backwards, so if you would please read SD-1, than my vote is correct! Actually I recently "unretired" mine (a early '80's, beat up one)in favor of my VoodooLab Overdrive!! - due to recent cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been SWITCHED OFF
Dave da Dude
Would ANYone like to see this re-done with all the real OD's and no distortion? If so, throw any other names out here, and I'll start another thread/vote. I'm still kinda' interested in this as it and distortion was how I started asking questions here. I have a Wah (Dunlop 535Q), and will soon have a block-buster bluestrat Super Fuzz (What was that tradename again? Better get a trademark registration soon or Gibson will steal it ). The next logical step (to me) will be overdrive. Am I right? Am I wrong? Do I care? Does anyone care? To poll or not to poll, THAT is the question. Gotta' geetar... got the amp. Cowbell
The Tube Driver, fo sho. I got my brother one for Christmas and it sounds AWESOME. Only downside is you need a power outlet to plug this baby in.
doc taz
I'm indebted to my Ibanez Tube Screamers! I have the TS-5 Soundtank bug (just used it tonight with my Zoom), and the more versatile Tonelok TS7 with the HOT switch. Analogman has mods for both, but I don't know if I'll ever subject mine to such surgery, though he does have a good track record. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
Dave da Dude
Cowbell, The Tube Driver, fo sho. Please refresh my ever increasing loss of short term memory; who makes it? Dr. Taz, you got it, the TubeScreamer is in; I guess I'll need to condense it to just two listings though, (true) Vintage and Current. Any more nominees out there? The polls are open for another twenty-four hours. Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".

Ibanez just recently reissued the TS-808, their first overdrive, and sought after by Tube Screamer fanatics. BTW, the TS-5 is no longer being made. You can find them cheap on eBay, and other places. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
