Bbach1
So, does your spouse or girlfriend make any comments about the time you spend with your music? I have a downstairs office - made into a music room. When I go upstairs after practicing I get the "oh, look who's emerging from the deep". I gotta get her a hobby. bbach Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
jbote
My wife bought me my first electric guitar after I had been making noises about finally learning how to play, so she has been very supportive...even when I add more guitars to the collection. Her hobby is digital photography, and usually she is working at the computer on photoshop in our office while I sit close by noodling on the guitar. (Her photos are really good too, IMHO. She posts regularly on Buzznet.com under the name mewesq - besides family shots she does alot of travel and has posted pix from Prague, Edinburgh, and London.) Jedro
Well, my girlfriend expects me to sit and watch Oprah, Good Day Live and Days of Our Lives with her everyday. I just can't. That's three hours of my day that I feel is wasted. Plus, I work in TV so the last thing I want to do is sit and stare at a TV on my days off. If I'm in another room playing guitar or on the computer, she'll come in to pull me away. Or try to. All work and no play makes Jedro a dull boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! StinkMonkey
Women can love their clothes, their car or whatever they drive, our kids, their friends, the family pet, holidays, jewelry, Oprah and Rikki, but they'll never understand the things a man loves, unless she's a musician. And then she'll still be jealous of your love for your insturment. It's just one of the not so mysterious mysteries of life: Women are selfish, they want you all to themselves. And they want your man juice. Play really loud and everything will be allright.

A String
I lucked out in the wife department. You guys all know what it's like when you're learning a new song...the same thing over and over again. When I ask her if she minds, she just grins and says, "Not at all." Bless her. Billster
My wife and I push each other to enjoy our own pursuits so we don't get too much on each other's nerves. I know I get and edge on if I don't have personal therapeutic time with my music or other interests. She recognizes the appearance of this edge before I do. Buy my CD on CD Baby! doug osborne
One of the few good things I can say about my ex-wife is: one birthday present was a new Fender P-Bass, another one was a new AKG 414 mic, and another was a new Yamaha SPX-90 digital delay. She could never grant me the time to use them, but she did figure out what toys would make me happy. My current girlfriend grumbles sometimes about the time I spend on music instead of her, but with good cheer. I got her involved by having her incorporate some of her art into my current guitar building project. Doug Osborne Music on Bandcamp
