JCCJ
Recently I posted a couple of messages entitled: "Multieffects vs. Stompboxes" and then "Tubescreamer vs. Tubdriver" to get input on the differences and opinions. Now I know for myself what the deal is. I got in a panic trying to hurry and find the Chandler Tube Driver or the Tube Works Tube Driver and I finally located one right down the road (actually 2 Tube Works and 1 Chandler) each for under $100. I just knew that when I plugged in with my strat and fender tube amp out would come the sound I was after. I must say I was somewhat disappointed. It just didn't fill the bill at all. I went away from the store reassured that my amp already sounded that way without either of them. So on I went to find the new Reissue of the Ibanez Tube Screamer TS 808. I went in the store which had one and asked for it along with a Boss Blues Driver I gave each good honest trial messing with all the settings and I came to two conclusions. First, the Tube Screamer and the Blues Driver sound remarkably alike to me. Second, I can get the same sound out of my amp without purchasing either of them. Conclusion. I came home with a renewd devotion to my Guitar and Amp (Big Apple Strat & Fender Hotrod Deluxe) with my own Digitech RP 200 multieffects processor. It's a great combination and I don't need to spend any more money (atleast for now)!!! Thanks for all the previous imput!
Hound Dog
Congratulations on completing another step in your quest for tone. You know, I remember one night I decided I would pretend to be a microphone. I tilted my 2x12 back at an angle and I played my guitar leaning back, using a pillow for support, with my head resting against the grill. Of course I didn't turn it up loud, but I enjoyed it immensely. I felt the low end, kind of like EVH. I think alot of times, especially when using dist pedals, that we just turn it up without trying to see if the sound will work at a low volume. Close miking picks up a much different sound than one hears when standing away from your amp at different levels and angles. Yum, Yum! Eat em up! Major Tom
The very best distortion or OD effect is none at all, just a good sounding amp...
